Year of Abundance: Wear it out

Continuing with my latest posts on our Year of Abundance . . . .
[Go here for Use it up!]
Wear it out- well, we’re good at this one when it comes to clothes. For Mr. Steady- any shirt or pants or socks too old or worn to be used for  good become work clothes when they are too far gone for work clothes they go into the rag bag or as mostly happens- the item is thrown away because Mr. Steady has truly worn it out! We aren’t able to pass down clothes with the girls right now because both the girls are wearing the same size but we are able to share with others. We have passed down our gently used clothes to others and been blessed ourselves with the passing down of gently used clothes.  Some items have been repurposed- for example: useless panty hose has been cut into strips to hold up plants in the garden, stained cotton t-shirts have been stitched into wash cloths (and used to wash those horrid muddy dirty feet at the back door- no tramping that in the house!).
Around the house it’s all about repairs and using tools and toys and such until you just can’t squeeze one more use from it. Leftovers (with the exception of meat) gone bad become compost as do coffee grounds and egg shells and grass/weed clippings.
I have even used broken china in my garden- I have a lovely little flowered dish that was broken and re-glued that is nestled with the flowers and is useful for giving the birdies a bit of a drink. Broken/chipped plates can be turned on their side and partially buried in the dirt to provide a beautiful border. Maiden has repurposed a few bits of this and that for her fairy garden. Mr. Conductor and I turned a broken terra cotta pot into a toad abode.
Coming Next: Make it do!

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD11- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD8- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added spice of flavor to our family.

DS4- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He likes to think he's in charge and often is! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
