Yes, it's a YEAR of Abundance Way back in January, I joined the Celebrate A Year of Abundance graciously hosted by Sallie @ A Gracious Home. I joined- wanting to make this a year of celebrating (and using) what I have. Little did I know when I made that commitment back in January what challenges we would face financially this year and how I would again and again be brought back to the reminder of the abundance God has given us.In the midst of all our financial hardship, God has shown us again and again that He provides for and watches over us. And so- thinking on that, it hasn’t been that much of a hardship . . . . when you can look back and see how God has carried you through. Thinking on the phrase that is the motto of Year of Abundance, “Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without”, I realize I’ve been doing just that without really trying. Use it up- well, right now we are eating from the pantry and freezer in order to squeeze out a few more dollars for an upcoming mini-vacation. We have also been using up the garden produce as well as sharing our abundance of produce! We’ve shared with friends and neighbors and co-workers and in some cases- we’ve received dozens of ears of corn, farm fresh eggs and even a jar of jam. We’ve frozen some of the harvest and some u-pick harvest too (blueberries and strawberries). We’ve also made use of reclaimed wood (from pallets Mr. Steady brings home from work) to make raised garden beds, fix my rose trellis, make garden stakes & cages for tomatoes and miscellaneous home repairs. Leftovers and garden clipping added to our compost and part of a felled tree, as well as many branches that have blown down in storms, have been used to replenish our stack of wood for our fire pit. Five gallon buckets lined up under the carriage barn’s roof edge catch rain to be used to water the gardens. Mr. Steady gets his worms for fishing from the compost pile. A set of doors marked free for the taking were brought home by Mr. Steady to replace a broken and unused door on the back of the house. Other roadside freebies have been used- bricks for the path in the garden and cement decorative edging for marking the edges of Mr. Steady’s veggie patch. We have shopped resale (i.e. Goodwill) for all the kids clothes so far this year and for Mr. Steady too. I have had to purchase a couple of things “new” but have made sure the items were on sale or clearance. Coming Next: Wear it out! Leave a Comment { Last Page } { Page 432 of 1515 } { Next Page } |
