I've found the time in the last few days to start planning out the girls schooling for this fall. I've planned 10 weeks for Sassafras and 8 for Maiden so far. I love looking through all the books and often find I just spent an hour reading a history text!
We'll be studying the Middle Ages this year and are planning our own Medieval Feast next May. It looks like it's going to be fun this year.
Mr. Steady also wants me to put together a bit of a schedule for Mr. Conductor too- just a few things each day that he can help check off to help him get the pattern of it. I've found some great websites and have a few books left over from doing preshool with Sass so it shouldn't be too difficult.
He loved "doing school" with the girls this past year so I think he will really look forward to it.
I've also laid some groundwork planning for the weeks I am responsible for in our homeschool group. We are doing a unit study this year on Faith and Freedom- highlighting specific figures in American History as well as a character trait that fits them. I will be helping teach about Benjamin Franklin and the character trait of commitment. And it will be for the month of September. Now with our family trip at the beginning of the month and my sister getting married towards the end of the month I've realized that I must get done all my planning right now as I don't want to be swamped and overwhelmed in September.
It is all very exciting and I love the research. Did you know that Benjamin Franklin never patented any of his inventions? He did not want to profit from them except to help make other's lives better. He was one of 16 children. His father pulled him out of school at 10 to help him in his soap and candle making. Franklin didn't take to the candle/soap making and asked to apprentice under his older brother who was a printer. It is amazing to look at the life of this man and realize he had no formal schooling past the age of 10 and yet was so well regarded as a learned man. Just another reminder that we never stop learning as long as we hunger and seek knowledge.
Here is a great quote (the man was just chockful of great quips!) to close:
Be civil to all; sociable to many familiar with few;
friend to one; enemy to none.
-- Benjamin Franklin
Hi there. I'm new to your blog and I'm really enjoying getting to know you :-) I wanted to say that I love the name you have chosen for your husband..."Mr. Steady". I noticed you have read "Created to be His Help Meet" and I am guessing your husbans name came from here. I, too, am reading CTBHHM and am truly leaning from it. I also have a "Mr. Steady" and for so long the way he his "bugged" me but looking at him thru new eyes makes me realize how truly blessed I am to have my wonderful, steady husband. Anway, just wanted to say "Hi". Thank you for sharing yourself with us.

Julie- Thanks for stopping by. I think the Mr. Steadys (Steadies??) of this world are greatly underappreciated and am doing my best to change that here in our home!!!
The book is an incredible read and I enjoyed it very much (a few passages made me squirm though). I even gave it to my sister for Christmas and boy am I glad I did as she's now getting married in 9 weeks!
Stop by again soon.
God bless-

Good afternoon. I was just looking at homeschool products on the site and I came across your post. I have a 2 1/2 and a 31/2 year old and I was wondering if you could give any info on what you used for your preschoolers. Thank you so much and I so appreciate it as I don't know anyone where we live and I want to homeschool. Have a very blessed day!!
My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady
My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.
DD11- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.
DD8- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added spice of flavor to our family.
DS4- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He likes to think he's in charge and often is! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
