My Best HS Tips & Advice

10:10 AM, 2007-Jun-22 .. 3 comments .. Link

Kelly at Pass The Torch is asking for Homeschool Tips and Advice and has even set up a Mr. Linky so that everyone can share their oodles of great advice on their sites and link to hers. I just love to talk about our homeschooling experiences. So how could I pass up this grand opportunity!
I’ve got some great posts in my archives so I’m going to share a few (okay- more than a few) of my favorites that I think will be helpful to others.
These posts here will give you an overview of a week in our homeschooling life. Just click on the day-- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.
Here's a list of what my daughters love about homeschooling. I plan on asking them to make a list at the end of each year. We also write down one thing we didn't like.
I decided to dedicate a couple of posts to answering the questions I always seem to get bombarded with after the initial shock of "Yes, we homeschool." wears off. Homeschooling Q and A and More Q and A.
Here's a list of some of my favorite homeschooling resourses. And How about my favorite homeschool resource books- click here for the list.
And as for what I believe to be the best tip for Homeschooling (besides daily prayer and reliance on God) is to belong to a support group. I belong to a co-op homeschool group that meet every Tuesday (from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm) from September to May. Our group consists of 10 families (24 soon to be 26 kids) and we choose a theme (unit study style) for the school year- so our Tuesdays are spent studying within the theme and our field trips reflect the theme. We break the theme down into smaller monthly units and then 2 moms team up to teach that month. Why do I see the group as so important? You would probably think that it's main importance was teaching but it's the companionship that is important. I know I wouldn't be doing so well in homeschooling if I didn't have the support and encouragement of these incredible ladies. The kids love "Tuesday school" because they know the teaching will be different from home and they will be spending time with friends (I love that my children see all the other kids as friends- regardless of age- not just a peer group but bigger!). Plus we qualify for group discounts for field trips!
Please check out the great links and info at Pass the Torch too.

HT: Ann're. Thanks!

ok i read through your whole week, the girl's lists, and the Q &A's--it was just all so good! Did I read right--that was your first year? I really enjoyed reading the week in the life of homeschooling posts. I know, I know there is no typical schedule, everyone is different. BUT, I really liked reading about how your family does things. Thanks for the great post.
And the devotions--are those online?

Hi! I'm coming over from Pass the Torch. Great Q&A entries! I get the same questions even abroad. In China, it's beyond comprehension that we can homeschool! :-)

Enjoyed your post.

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD11- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD8- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added spice of flavor to our family.

DS4- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He likes to think he's in charge and often is! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
