Our BIG Weekend

We had a wonderful weekend celebrating our son’s 2nd birthday on Sunday. He is a Thomas the Tank Engine freak so that was his party theme. I made a sign for the door announcing our house as “Station No. 2” and made fun names for all the food etc. Like Chugga Chugga Punch and Choo- Choo Chili (a.k.a. Toot-Toot Chili) and made a train with freight cars for condiments (containers that I dressed up to look like freight cars) and topped it off with a cake with real Thomas train (DH made it). DH also made a fun table runner that looked like train tracks (using black crepe paper) and we just added all of Sam’s various trains to the track for decorations. It was a wonderful party that didn’t stress us (or our budget) out. Since it was Sunday and church we only let Sam open up 1 gift before church- a bunch of small Thomas and Friends die cast trains. He was so happy and packed them in his church bag right away. My DH commented that if that was the only gift he got that day- he was a happy and content boy. It was a wonderful reminder to me that my children really don’t need much to be happy. With all the new gifts from friends and family we will be going thru Sam’s toy chest and putting away “old” toys to donate to our church’s daycare and the local Free Store. The girls were such big helps too- so much so that we actually had cuddle/quiet/nap time in the afternoon before the party!

It was a wonderful day- my baby is 2 and more boy than baby. I have to admit I was glad when he cried at bedtime so I  was able to snuggle him. I just held him and prayed over him and thanked God for him. I sat there, cuddling and knowing that these times will soon end. This sweet smelling baby boy that I hold in my arms will become a dirty boy, a stinky, sweaty teen and some day a fine man and then, hopefully, some day a Dad. I donÂ’t want to miss any of the “moments” as it happens. I desire to be like Mary and ponder and treasure these precious moments in my heart.

I am glad that your son had a Happy Birthday! Sounds like a great party! I always did my kids parties at home too with homemade games and decor etc. They are 14, 11, and 8 now and still talk about some of the parties they had when very small. You made some great memories for your son!

Sounds a great party!! My "baby" (my youngest baby!), was 15 on Saturday. I just can't believe it. I wish I could have held and snuggled her to sleep! This only time I get to do that now is when they're sick. They still like to lay on the couch with their head in my lap so I can gently rub their face.

Well...SOME things never change!

Blessings from Ohio, Kim Wolf<><

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD11- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD8- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added spice of flavor to our family.

DS4- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He likes to think he's in charge and often is! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
