Sharing what he taught me

Things My Dad Taught Me went over very well at church yesterday. It was very touching and brought laughter also. My brother and sister and I ended up talking together yesterday afternoon sharing even more suggestions of the different "stuff" our Dad has taught us over the years and then I hit upon an idea . . . . .
My Dad's birthday is July 2nd and I asked my brother and sister if they would help add to the list of things Dad has taught us and then we could present it to him on his birthday (he is very hard to buy for!). I am also planning on working with my kiddos to make a list of things Grampa has taught them. I'm thinking of putting it in a scrapbook so that we can add to it as the kids grow up.
I'm not sure I can get the kids' book all put together before my Dad's birthday (I'd like to add pictures and such) but I at least plan on having the list for him and working on the book to give at a later date.
As for Father's Day gifts . . . . .
The kiddos paid for Mr. Steady's fishing license for the year and a yummy trail mix.
We gave my brother and my Dad spice mixes- BBQ Spice and Steak Seasoning. [Which they promptly sprinkled on the burgers they were grilling- yum, yum]. The kiddos gave Grampy a Dutch Chocolate mix for homemade ice cream (which he ended up making for everyone later- triple yum!]. As for Mr. Steady's father, we have him a variety of sugar-free candy because he has a real sweet tooth but also has diabetes. The kids were very tickled with their gift giving- finding it to be "spot on". I was pleased with their generosity (and how low cost the spice mixes were!).
As for how we spent Father's Day- lazy day with good food and friends and family. I was priveleged to overhear Mr. Steady talking with some older friends of the family about our first year of homeschooling-- it was wonderful to hear him not only describe how good it was for our family in so many ways but I can't even begin to say how it deeply touched me to hear my husband say how proud he is of me and the job I am doing with the kids. I made sure to tell him so later- he really touched my heart with a wonderful gift of love and encouragement yesterday.

Looks like a wonderful day all around. I think I'm going to steal your idea and get Dh to make a list of things his father taught him. Of course, we have three boys so we're going to get Dangerous Book for Boys and check things off as we learn them too!
I'm adding you to my list of friends - your blog is great! Thanks for the link to Sew Retro too!!!!

We just checked out the Dangerous Book for Boys from the library! Great book- worth buying if you can. Mr. Steady really enjoyed reading it. I definitely recommend it.
Thanks for your lovely comments. I love getting such lovely comments! :o)

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD11- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD8- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added spice of flavor to our family.

DS4- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He likes to think he's in charge and often is! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
