and so it goes and goes and goes

Wow! The days a full and busy here.
The lettuce in the garden is just growing so much- I almost can't keep up with it. We've been giving it away to neighbors and eating salads every evening. Thank the Lord, we love salad!
The garden is doing very well. I've got way too much thyme, oregano, chives and apple mint and will be thinning out the patches. A couple of people have asked for some plants to I'll be delivering gallon ice cream buckets full of lush green herbs in dirt this week.
My mom and I are planning a yard sale at the end of the month and I think, perhaps, I'll pot some herbs and put them up for sale . . . . . and maybe some lettuce bundles too . . . .
We've been out working at the little farm my parents caretake for a couple in Chicago (the same farm I mentioned last year that we hope to buy someday). The couple have quite a list of repairs and upkeep they want done this summer and it is more than my parents can handle on their own. It also pays $10/hour and so that is our summer jobs to help replenish our empty bank accounts.
On Friday our 13 year old cat, Duke (named after John Wayne by Mr. Steady) took a turn for the worse and Mr. Steady had to put him down. It was a very sad day for all of us. Mr. Steady and I got Duke a couple of months after we were married and the children have never known life without him. Duke had become Mr. Conductor's treasured friend (napping  together and more) and he took Duke's death much harder than we had anticipated. We buried Duke in the backyard with Mr. Conductor helping Mr. Steady put him in the hole and pour the dirt on top- this was helpful to Mr. Conductor- especially being able to pet his dear friend one last time. We all cried. I told Mr. Steady that I felt silly crying over a pet- especially having been raised on a farm and dealing with this sort of thing all my growing up years . . . . but it was still a sad occassion.
Friday nite Maiden had already had plans to stay with a friend and so off she went and then my mom asked to have Sassafras and Mr. Conductor over to stay the nite with her in the playhouse at their farm and so Mr. Steady and I had a quiet evening together. We watched a movie and just didn't talk about the cat.
Saturday was busy with worship team practice and signing up for summer reading at the library and checking out our Little Town's art festival. Then having friends over in the afternoon which turned into an impromptu game of water wars and then a quiet evening cooking over the campfire.
It was a wonderful family weekend.
This week has already started very busy- a lot going on with church and events and such. I am thankful for the quiet mornings with the kids and afternoons spent with good books.
God has and continues to be so good to us.

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD11- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD8- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added spice of flavor to our family.

DS4- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He likes to think he's in charge and often is! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
