Peace, Be Still

Today I began in my prayer journal with a prayer of praise for peace. The verse was John 14: 27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”

My prayer prompt was this: I thank you for Your peace that passes all understanding. I praise You for the supernatural calm that surrounds me, even in the midst of storms that rage around me. Speak “Peace, be still” to my heart when I toss and turn in the tumult. You are my Prince of Peace.”

Now my first thought while reading thru my prayer prompt was this: “What supernatural calm? I don’t feel that!” But I continued on and came to the part where I ask my Prince of Peace to speak “Peace, be still” to my heart. What a simple and profound message. I have been struggling with my 9 yr old DD’s attitude (and mood swings) and often find myself more upset and yelling than loving and enjoying her and that makes me very sad. I was talking with God last night and asking Him if I was expecting too much- how I could make things better and on and on as I poured out all my hurt and confusion. And then this morning I read “Peace, be still” I think I should meditate on that one. When my DD starts with the attitude and the eye rolling and the *sighs* and the backtalk- before I speak and fly off the handle I feel I should pray “Lord, speak ‘peace, be still’ to my heart as I deal with this.”

Last night I prayed for God to show me a way . . . . . Today . . . .

Amen...
