Home Sweet Simple Home

Too Close

Today my neighbor told me that Tuesday afternoon there was a strange man (as in unknown) walking around my house- not on the sidewalk around my house but literally on the grass close to my home. He seemed to be talking on a phone and looking in windows.
Yes, this scares me. Even more- the fact that I was home with the children at the time. It was a beautiful day and all the windows were open the back door unlocked and inside door open (screen door closed but unlocked. The front door to the porch open to catch the breeze (I have an enclosed porch and the other porch door was closed but you could possibly see right into the house if you were close enough). None of the doors were locked. I was home but never saw the man.
My neighbor said she was sitting on her porch steps talking on the phone when she noticed him coming around the side of the house. She thought it was odd that he was out there and so called out to him "Can I help you?" He said he was looking for such-n-such street (1 block away). An odd answer- to be looking for a street when you are walking around someone's home. He left soon after.
I am creeped out. If he was "casing the place"- we don't live luxuriously. We don't have the latest techno stuff- we don't own a flat screen TV or gaming system, I don't have any fancy jewelry or artwork or any such stuff but what we have is ours.
A few years ago someone tried to break into our home while we were gone to church on a Sunday morning. They tried to break in thru a downstairs window at the back of the house- if they had only known we had unknowningly left the front door unlocked! [Thank goodness God watches over us even in our stupidity!]
I repeated to Mr. Steady what the neighbor had shared and he is concerned. He wondered aloud if we should inform the police of the incident.
I am thankful that we pray each day that God would protect and watch over our home and property as well as our family. Oh, Lord please continue to protect and watch over us. Please Lord, keep us from harm and evil. Lord God may the forces of evil have to flee if they even look upon our home. Sheild us, Lord. In Your Holy Name I pray- Amen.

Amy,
There is no reason for some man to be walking in your yard if he is looking for another house. Did he think the house number would be on the back or side of your house?
I don't know your feelings on dogs, but a big dog that lives in your house with you is your best protection. Every security company says the number one thing you can do for protection is have a dog, the second one is have a fenced yard. These are far more effective than an electronic security system.
I would be more worried that this man is a child predator than someone wanting to break into your house.

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD11- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD8- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added spice of flavor to our family.

DS4- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He likes to think he's in charge and often is! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
