A PassingRight this minute a tree service is making a horrid racket out in front of my home. The city has finally authorized the cutting down of a half-dead tree in front of our home. We asked them to do this approx. 7 years ago when we found the tree's roots were crushing and winding in our sewer pipes. We've been living in fear of another major sewage catastrophe for all those years and have kept an eagle eye on what gets flushed here (once a friend across the street tried to flush a big pot of spaghetti noodles she had burned in a pot- can you imagine?!).I called Mr. Steady to let him know. We've asked the tree service to leave us the wood. The bigger chunks my father will come get (they heat with wood) and the smaller chunks we will keep for our campfires. It is a blessing- just yesterday Mr. Steady was lamanting the dwindling condition of our firewood pile. No worries now! Thank you Lord! My only sadness is that this is the specific tree I have stood the kids in front of every year for their First Day of School Pictures. Mr. Steady's reply when I lamented this fact, "You'll have to choose a different tree now." If my camera wasn't on the fritz I'd have taken pictures of them cutting it down to commemorate it's passing. Perhaps when it's all cleaned up- I'll pose the kids around the stump (they'll be back later to grind it up) and take their picture with the old camera- if the batteries aren't dead.
