What was I thinking

Took my first bike ride of the year today and liked to have ‘bout killed myself. I had Mr. Conductor in the carriage behind me (using Mr. Steady’s bike because it’s the one with the adapter hookup for the carriage) and the difference in his weight from last year is staggering- or else I am in horrible rotten shape (or it could just be a combination of the two!). My thighs were screaming after we went 2 city blocks (I also don’t know how to change gears on Mr. Steady’s bike and felt that I was pedaling more than I was moving forward). We were on a mission- a quick trip to the library and by the time we got there I was huffing and puffing and could have been mistaken for the Big Bad Wolf-- except for the wheezing; I couldn’t have blown over a puff-ball dandelion. The ride home was Just as bad. I barely had enough in me to prop the bike up against the garage and stumble backwards onto the grass. Of course, Sassafras had a backpack chock-full of books and didn’t seem the least bit winded. And Mr. Conductor was just as fine and dandy as could be- riding in style as it were.
Whew.
