Start by doing what’s necessary, then what’s possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible. – Francis of Assisi

The days have been full and much has been accomplished. A bit of this and a smattering of that does add up to accomplished and completed tasks. We’ve been busy on the homestead. Busy with this and that such as taking down the plastic off the windows and dusting off the screens, fixing and mending gutters and moving plants in the gardens and pulling weeds and pulling weeds and pulling weeds. And more than that- is the time spent together as a family- whether it is working along side each other, playing together or just snuggling together.
The days have been full.
Schooling continues to hum along. I am so thrilled that we continue to do so well. The kids are all very excited right now about our end-of-the- year camp-out with our homeschool group—it’s coming up in a couple of weeks and they talk about it daily. We have other fun activities lined up between now and then. Next week is track and field day followed by an ice cream social- yum! We pray the weather will cooperate.
We lost 2 rows of lettuce to garden pests and are hoping to keep them away from the new sprouts (Mr. Steady has put his hair clippings around the rows and it seems to be helping). Then we lost approx. 4 cucumber plants when Mr. Conductor decided to drag a sled (yes, as in snow sled) full of plucked weeds through the garden. We really have to keep an eye on him when he’s near the veggie patch. I don’t mind him tromping around on my thyme (another favorite pastime) but the growing veggies are a big No, No and he knows it. Ah, the pleasures of the 3 year-old testing the boundaries! Many, many well meaning people have commented on how “busy” or “active” he is and how “tired” and “worn-out” his mama looks. And then they say, “But he’s just so darn cute!” I am the mother of a 3 year old tornado- I have become immune to his cuteness for the most part.
Mr. Steady had his appt. with the neurosurgeon on Monday and the doctor advised him to continue with the massage therapy at this time and come back in June.
Tuesday was National Teacher Appreciation Day. We had a special homeschool group meeting honoring our Mommy Teachers. My children also pampered me at home- including Mr. Steady and Maiden working together to make supper. It was a lovely day of recognition. I feel very blessed.
Today my mother is having carpal tunnel surgery. My dad is with her and I will be visiting her later this evening. Her sister will be staying with her tomorrow. Maiden will be going over there to help her during the day next week. Another reason to be thankful for homeschooling. Maiden is very excited about this opportunity to serve her grandma.
Saturday morning is my annual flower and plant shopping day and Sunday is Mother’s Day. We’ll be having dinner with my parents. I’ve tried to nail down my mom about the food but it’s been difficult. The plan is to talk it over with my father tonight and finalize the details. For someone like me who plans and shops for meals at least two weeks in advance, I don’t like this waiting until the last minute stuff.
Today we work on school [Math test for Sassafras] and I put the final polish on my monthly youth pastor reports for the church board as well as put together cost figures for our youth ministry’s summer camping trip. Plus a load of laundry and if the weather cooperates we’ll go on a hike later on.
I also have a couple of books I picked up from the library yesterday- waiting for a nice glass of lemonade and the porch swing this afternoon.
Ah, our days are full and quite content.

hair clippings

We visited the Botanical Gardens in St. Louis a few years ago and they had some test plots to see what would help plants the most. Hair made the plants do the best - quite a lot better than the others. I try to put hair clippings, animal fur, etc. in our compost. have a great day! jill

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD11- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD8- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added spice of flavor to our family.

DS4- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He likes to think he's in charge and often is! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
