Home Sweet Simple Home

One thing lead to another

Sassafras decided to clean under her bed during quiet time yesterday. Which sounds wonderful but actually isn't- everything that was under her bed then became strewn all over the room. And I mean ALL over.
Then I noticed that the closet was over two feet deep with blankets and stuffed animals. You couldn't walk in that room without stepping on some thing. I decided it was too much- armed myself with a big box and garbage bag and braved the room.
It was time to Deep Spring Clean.
After finding the floor I vacced every nook and cranny. The girls still have to dust- they are pretty good at that. But other than that it is now a clean zone.
Maiden has books stacked all over her dresser, desk, shelves and even a dozen or so in her bed. She needs another bookcase. She helped me clean and rearrange it all. I had her separate the books she has yet to read from the ones she's already read to make it easier for her to pick a new book. She liked that idea a lot and was surprised to find she had so many books she's yet to read. Good!
Sass had so much trash stuffed in every litle thing. And I found quite a few stray socks in the midst of it all. Enough to form pairs! No wonder we didn't notice them missing but I felt for some odd reason they were low on socks.
Found a few of Mr. Conductor's long lost trains and a quite a few library books under the bed. It seems my warning to be more careful to keep the library books altogether has fallen on deaf ears. I think we need a special bin for them.
When all was said and done- I had 1.5 full boxes of "stuff" to give away and one large very full trash bad. I was tired but felt a mountain had been conquered.
We have free dump day here in town on Saturday and so this evening Mr. Steady plans on hauling out a few things. The kids and I will be right beside him to make sure he doesn't overdue it (because of his back). We only have free dump day once a year so we like to take advantage of it. We'll also see a lot of people driving thru town this evening checking out the trash leavings. You know what they say, one man's trash is another man's  treasure.

Library basket

Amy,
We have a medium sized basket I got at a yard sale that sits next to our fireplace. All library books go in the basket. The girls are good about putting a book into the basket when it is finished before taking out another one.
In the summer, my girls are library volunteers, so it is easy to get books returned on time then! Actually, DH and I are the ones most likely to misplace a library book (especially magazines). I have to keep remembering to put it in the library basket right away.

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD11- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD8- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added spice of flavor to our family.

DS4- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He likes to think he's in charge and often is! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
