Laundry Question

What do you use for stains? Since we are all trying to be more self-sufficient and ecological . . . . making our own detergent and all that. I was wondering what you use to treat stains? I often use Fels Naptha but sometimes resort to Era because of tough grass stains.

I have heard about using shampoo as a pre-treatment but don't know about that one- what shampoo do you use and is it really a savings? I use baby shampoo for my delicates- always have and it's worked fine and also very cheap as I was given a few huge-mongous bottles when my kiddos were each born (haven't bought it myself in years!) But using a regular shampoo to treat stains on other clothing seems to be stepping too far out on the limb for me without knowing if others have had success.

I cant help you there! I use Zout, but as I am trying to go to all natural cleaners too, I am interested in reading others answers.

Believe it or not....

I make homemade soap and most stains I can get rid of with a swipe of my homemade soap bars....

All lard soap bars are great for getting rid of stains....

Here is a recipe for a stain pre-treatment:
1/4 c. vegetable oil-based soap
1/4 c. glycerin
2 T. borax
10 drops peppermint or tea tree essential oil
1 3/4 c. water
Combine all ingredients in a spray bottle and shake well. Spray generously onto stain . Launder as usual.

I usually let stained items soak overnight. It seems to help!

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD11- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD8- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added spice of flavor to our family.

DS4- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He likes to think he's in charge and often is! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
