Home Sweet Simple Home

Home Sweet Home- Really!

“A good home must be made, not bought.– Joyce Maynaro

“Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired and success achieved.” - Helen Keller

I think these 2 quotes go together.

I think it is through the trials we face that we learn to appreciate our homes, our safe havens. Perhaps thru trials a home is made? We make our house a home to protect us and shield us- a place to go and "lick our wounds" so to speak.

The world can come at me from all sides but it cannot come into my home unless I allow it. I have begun praying over this home and land. Each day I take a specific room (or area) and pray. Let me share a couple of examples:

Our Property:

Verse: For He orders his angels to protect you wherever you go. They will hold you with their hands to keep you from striking your foot on a stone. Psalm 91-11-12

Prayer: LORD, put Your shield of protection around my home and property. Do not allow any evil to set foot on this land. Put your guardian angels at the four corners of this land to guard and protect. May this land be a dwelling place for You, LORD. Make it holy. Amen

Kitchen:

Verse: You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours. Psalm 128:2      & . . . .       There, in the presence of the LORD your God, you and your families shall eat and shall rejoice in everything you have put your hand to, because the LORD your God has blessed you. Deuteronomy 12:7

Prayer: LORD, be present in our kitchen. Bless the food that is prepared here and may it bring pleasure and good health. The kitchen is the heart of this home, LORD. Bless this heart- may it be gentle, kind and tender. Amen

I truly feel that God hears these prayers. This house is our home by His grace alone. It belongs to Him just as everything (and everyone) else in our lives. How I treat my home and my family is the deepest reflection of my relationship with the LORD. When I realized that, I realized that in order to be content I had to be content here at home. I won’t find my contentment in jobs/ministries away from here . . . .  I must be thankful and praise-ful of what I have been given.

More on this lesson learned later . . . .

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD11- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD8- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added spice of flavor to our family.

DS4- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He likes to think he's in charge and often is! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
