Home Sweet Simple Home

Afternoon report

The brunch for my mother was wonderful. My brother and his little boy J came mid-morning to prep and play. The girls had most of their school done yesterday and so only had a couple of things to do this morning. Of course, with the prospect of Nana coming as well as Uncle and J- they were done in no time at all.
Maiden helped me starch and press the napkins- first time she's ever done it. Boy, I wish I would have taken a picture of the table- it was so lovely. My brother announced when he got here that he felt underdressed with such a set-up. LOL Maiden and I even got out my Great Gramma Clark's silver to use. It's always a treat to open that cherry wood velvet lined box and examine all the pieces.
Sassafras helped me make the birthday flower arrangement this morning from the 2 bouquets we bought at Aldi's yesterday. Again, wish I'd thought to take a picture. I picked up the cutest little pastel green tin bucket with green bow at Dollar General for 67 cents- we put in florist foam (saved from a previous arrangement- just turned the foam upside down from when it was last used) and since I couldn't find my Spanish moss to fill in at the base we used paper Easter grass (not the nasty shiny stuff). The end result was sweet. The girls made scripture cards (Maiden with a certificate for a bouquet of lilacs when they are blooming) and Mr. Conductor "played" her a song on the piano (which he had been working on most of the morning . . . . quite loudly!).
After Nana and Uncle and J left we started cleaning out my biggest herb garden. I find while it is incredibly painful to sit and such- kneeling offers a bit of relief. It was nice to get some fresh air and sun plus clean out the garden too! Mr. Conductor enjoyed finding all sorts of bugs and even relished squishing a few.

As for my tail bone- it hurts. A LOT. A WHOLE LOT.

I am glad you are feeling a little bit better. I hope your tailbone is not broken.
My girls came home from middle school today and told me something I thought you would enjoy hearing. Our county has a dress code. For girls: no skirts or shorts above mid-thigh, no tank tops, no speghetti straps, no tummies showing.
Every spring, (and today is our first warm day), some of the girls come to school in super short shorts and super short skirts, etc.
This year we have a new principal. He had the staff pull aside the girls wearing inappropriate clothes, and they were told to go to the gym and put on their gym uniform for the day! If they didn't have their gym uniform at school, no problem, the school has a pile of old ones that can be rented. The gym uniforms are these big, baggy t-shirts and large, long baggy shorts that the kids hate.
I don't know what the boys are expected to wear or if any of them had to change into gym clothes. My daughters got quite a laugh out of the girls who had to change. Finally someone is enforcing the dress code.

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD11- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD8- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added spice of flavor to our family.

DS4- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He likes to think he's in charge and often is! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
