Handwriting Gush

Allow me to gush about how much I love my girls’ handwriting program, Reason for Handwriting. Here’s the description from Christian Book Distributors:

Reason For® Handwriting provides a fun, meaningful approach to developing effective handwriting skills. Each lesson is built around a Scripture verse chosen not only for proper letter combinations, but also inspirational content. The included "Border Sheets" encourage students to share God's Word with others. At the end of each week, children copy their "Verse of the Week" on a sheet chosen from the back of their workbooks, then use their creative talents to color and decorate it.

We do school 4 days a week (5th day is homeschool group) and do handwriting all 4 days. The first 3 days are spent copying specific words from the selected scripture verse and the forth day the girls choose a specific border sheet and copy the entire verse onto it with their very best handwriting. They then color the border sheet and attach a little note that says “Dear _______, Each week I write a scripture verse as part of my handwriting lesson. This week I want to share a verse with you. I hope you have a good week with God’s blessing. I will be praying for you. Sincerely, _______________” [This note is recommended by Reason for Handwriting]. They each have made a list of people they want to send their verses to and each week they go over that list with their specific verse in mind, praying for just the right person who needs their verse that week. The girls slip their verses into envelopes, address them and then decorate the envelopes. Some we hand deliver and others we mail.
I believe the little extras of this program- using scripture and the wonderful border pages, are what make it successful for my girls. They have even been known to do two lessons in one week because they want to send another special verse to a certain person.
Many of the people that the girls have shared their verses with have expressed their gratitude. Many times we’ve heard, “Your verse came just when I needed it.” My oldest has taken to specifically listening when prayer requests are shared during worship at church and makes notes of people who may need her verse that week. And both girls love to give decorated verses instead of birthday cards and also as thank you’s.
Reason for Handwriting has helped my girls learn the gifts of hospitality and encouragement. They have also expanded the list of people they pray for daily. I have never heard whining or complaining about handwriting lessons and so I am very grateful to the friend who recommended this program to me. [It is also one of the 3 recommended writing programs used by Sonlight]. One book will cover a school year and can be purchased here for $11.99. But I'm considering trying Handwriting without Tears for my youngest. I have just heard so many good things about that one from all of the Occupational Therapy websites.

I am looking for a new Handwriting for my soon to be 1st grader. Right up my alley along with importance of scripture, copywork and letter writing.

Continue to teach your blessings to serve the Lord.

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD11- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD8- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added spice of flavor to our family.

DS4- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He likes to think he's in charge and often is! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
