A new Bday Tradition

One of the newest birthday traditions we have implemented is the Birthday Breakfast Order. I have made a door hanger with a breakfast menu list on one side that we hang on the birthday kiddo’s door knob the night before their big day. The kiddo then checks off the items they would like to have for their breakfast and hangs it back on the door knob for Mr. Steady or I to pick up.

This works best if you ask them in advance what they think they’d like to eat for breakfast (gives you time to shop and bake specific items) and to only list items that you have on hand or are willing to make.

On the big day the birthday kid turns the hanger over to the other side so that they are reminded how very special they are.

Note: I tweaked this idea after reading it in Homespun Memories for the Heart (a much loved book of mine that I cannot recommend highly enough- worth buying not just a library check-out!).
Breakfast is served in style for the guest of honor. For Sassafras I unearthed a flowered placemat and a chair slipcover, a rose print china bowl and our extra special Wagner Birthday Plate plus special gold silverware. At the top of her place setting was a beautiful vase of flowers her Daddy had bought her.

I must also mention that she woke to a room full of balloons and streamers and a big birthday sign. This is also a new family birthday tradition.
So the birthday has offically started. So far not much expense (just food and flowers) because we had everything on hand. And yet, we've already started the day in a very special way- making the birthday girl feel like a Queen!

Great idea with the menu, we have a simular tradition, the one with the birthday gets to pick dinner for that night, no exceptions...

It's fun and it makes their day even more special...
