That's exciting about paying off the debt settlement. I know how you must be feeling - we are just starting our journey to being debt free and I can't wait until we start seeing some of the debts go bye-bye.

How exciting!!! Great job Amy!!!! I am so glad you are almost out from under the debt umbrella.

Several years ago, I was able to settle with several companies for less than I owed. However I found a small problem with how I handled it, so I wanted to pass on some information to you!!

I got online this weekend and got my credit report from freecreditreport.com. (You print it out and then cancel it so you don't have to make any payments) I was shocked to find out that several of those companies had not taken me off the list of bad debts out there, and therefore my credit rating is lower that it should be.

So, I called one of the companies today to CHEW THEM OUT. And they told me, they send an update to the top three credit bureaus, but it is then their job to update it on their computers. Another words, they say I need to call or write the credit bureaus telling them I am paid up, and dispute this. they will in turn call the companies, and make sure this is true, and then fix it on their computers as well!!

So, I could encourage you to get IN WRITING proof that you are paid up with each and every company. Keep these in a file! Sooner or later, you may need to prove yourself as I am now!!!

I hope this helps you out some. I have a big job ahead of me now trying to prove my payment in full to several of these companies!!!

I don't know how you do it. Five people living on less than $40k in the US is a real challange. Maybe someday you can give us a breakdown of how much you spend in each category. Just supporting two cars is a lot of money.
