Hinds Feet on High Places

DO WE HAVE GARDENS?

12:16, 2006-May-1 .. 1 comments .. Link

Pretty soon our whole yard will be a garden! (And our "yard" is 2 acres). My husband has been having fun plowing up MORE soil and discing, so it looks like we are in for a BUSY summer.  (I am thinking of all the weeding just now...) We are praying we get sufficient rain this summer, as the harvest was poor last year due to drought. I truly enjoy canning fresh produce, and have lots of jars waiting to be filled. We also have 3 chest freezers (two are 6 footers), so it really helps to be able to store up food as it becomes available. Looks like lots of time outdoors for me  and the kids.

Can't think of a better way to spend the summer-the kids get an education without even realizing it, too! Besides learning gardening, they will be learning much about working as a family and team, how to preserve food, the satisfaction of a job well done, and enjoying the fruits of your labors. Not to mention that foods you grow and prepare yourself are not only good for you, they are GOOD!

This way of life was handed down to us by our parents, and we hope to do the same for our children. We are so thankful to be in a place where we can have any size garden(s) we want. Ahhh, life's simple pleasures...

sounds wonderful! We are hoping for rain too.

The hidden 'education' is half the fun...I know just in the 3 months we've lived here, planted a pretty big garden, had baby chicks and a few other neat things my boys have learned so much and had fun and worked all at the same time. I love it when we are ALL outside working together, it is a JOY...a real joy!!!
