Children's Garden
Posted in Our life
Here
is our children's garden. We just pulled all the old growth out
and will be covering it with newspaper and bark for the rest of winter
(or what passes for the season here ).
Last year we had giant sunflowers among other things that we planted
from seeds. The sunflowers are going to move to the backyard so
we can make a playhouse for the kids. Now I am on the hunt for some interesting flowers or veggies for the kids to grow from seed.
Does anyone here have a "children's garden?" And what do you have them plant in it?

Hi there! We do not have a children's garden yet but I have plans for one in my garden journal. I sure do hope we will be able to make it happen. May your dreams and plans come to pass as well. It looks like you have the beginnings of a great plan. Gardening is a great deal of hard and healthy work. Some of my best memories are of when I was a little girl and I would work with my grandfather in his garden. He taught me so much. Of course, I have forgotten much of what he taught me but those were such happy times, I would like to be able to recreate that for our children.
I have a few gardening links for children on my blog if you want to look at them. Some of them are printable worksheets which your kiddos may enjoy.
I really liked the idea for the sunflower playhouse. I bought so many sunflower seeds last year but did not plant them. I would like to have some beanpole teepees as well. Thanks for the link.
May you be blessed! Sharra

What a neat idea! I'd love for you to post your plans as they develop and see the finished product!
One thing I might put in are some edible flowers. My kids loved to make and eat "salads" out of edible flowers as they played house. I did make sure to drill it into their heads to NEVER eat anything I didn't specifically tell them was edible though.

I don't have any thoughts on a children's garden - mine are waaaay past that - but wished I would have thought of it - My 14 yo dd will be helping me with the "big" garden - she will gripe, but she will do it!! Please keep us posted on your progress!!
