Some Changes Taking Place
Looks like some changes will be taking place around our home. My DH came home from work last night & said that a few departments at his employment were going down to 4 day weeks. EEK! He said it hasn't hit his department as of right now but who knows if or when it might. He said NO MORE SPENDING MONEY for the rest of 2008 unless it's necessary! Yes, Christmas is just around the corner & we will be having Christmas. He is talking about our previous bad habits that have once again reared their ugly heads. Like going out to eat. We have been doing far too much of that recently! WAY TOO MUCH! It's funny how old habits die hard. Sometimes they don't die at all, they kind of just hibernate for awhile! UGH! He said that I'm going to have to start making our own noodles & everything, which isn't new for me, I've done it before but I've gotten lazy & buying them at the store is much easier. So looks like I will be spending alot more time in the kitchen putting to practice all the things that I have learned over the years. I justified myself by thinking that I will use these techniques "when I have to" but right now I don't have to use them b/c the money is good. Oh the lies we believe!!! We can justify anything....if we want to! ~Smile~
The other change? Here is a little snippit of my devotional reading this morning:
The sluggard never seems to have time for the things that really matter, expecially things that require discipline. But before he realizes it, his time and opportunities are lost. As Proverbs 24:33-34 observes, "A little sleep, a little slumber,..." Notice that it's just a "little" sleep, a "little" slumber, a "little" folding of the hands to rest that brought the ruin of lost time and opportunity. It's so easy to lose so much. You don't have to do anything to lose time.
Many people value time as silver was appraised in the days of Solomon. It is said of him in 1 Kings 10:27, "The king made silver as common in Jerusalem as stones." Time appears to be so plentiful that losing much of it seems inconsequential. But money is easily wasted as well. And if people threw away their money as thoughtlessly as they throw away their time, we would think them insane. Yet time is infinitely more precious than money because money can't buy time. But you can minimize the loss and waste of time by discipling yourself for the purpose of Godliness...
If you suddenly realized that you had no more time, would you regret how you have spent your time in the past and how you spend it now? The way you have used your time can be of comfort to you in your last hour. You many not be happy with some of the ways you used your time, but won't you be pleased then for all the times of Spirit-filled living, for all occasions when you have obeyed Christ? Won't you be glad then for those parts of your life that you spent in the Scriptures, prayer, worship, evangelism, serving, fasting, etc., for the purpose of becoming more like the One before whom you are about to stand in judgement? What great wisdom there is in living as Jonathan Edwards resolved to live: "Resolved, that I will live so, as I shall wish I had done when I come to die."
Why not do something about it while you still have time?
Approach your day in a new way. How much time do you spend driving, working, or eating (or on the computer!)? What time is wasted? Replace wasted time with an activity that has value in the kingdom of God.
So with all that said, I feel that I have been spending WAY too much time on this computer. Most days I don't even post on my blog but just sit & surf to "give me something to do." If I really wanted to, I could think of a thousand things to "give me something to do" that are more productive than surfing the net & wasting time. I guess after reading this devotional again it goes along with the first paragraph I typed about the money. I guess all the wasted time that I have spent on this computer will now be spent in the kitchen. Funny how God sends you stuff at just the right time, huh? ~Smile~
Have a nice day & God bless!
Blessings!.· ´¨¨)) -:¦:-

Thanks for your honest post... I have felt these same feelings as well... like being one of the sleeping virgins... so busy with spending my days as I please, yet neglecting to do the things that I can. I too have wisped back on old habits and I've noticed it's effects as of late... the girls expecting food NOW, because eating out does gratify our desires much more quickly than Mom saying... we're going home and making supper and it might just be sandwiches since it is so late...
Oh, to make noodles... I've not developed that skill and someday I may be sorry, because I love pasta!
Anyways, your post hit my heart today. May we wake up and be ready for the day that God has given us... may we use it to the best of our ability, may we touch lives and may we come a bit closer to Him who loves us so much!
Warmly, ~Melissa

Please tell me you are not "going away" for good, I feel like I am just getting to know you! :-) That said, you have to do what is right for you. I know the computer is a big time waster for me, too. I have to give myself time on it, because it is also a sanity booster. I set a timer. When it goes off, so does the computer. So I have to spend my time on it wisely.
I haven't tried making noodles yet, I should give it a shot. We save so much money so many other ways, is one justification for not making everything from scratch, but I really should.
Thank you for an eye-opening post!
