Isaiah 58........Isaiah 58True Fasting1 "Shout it aloud, do not hold back.Raise your voice like a trumpet. Declare to my people their rebellion and to the house of Jacob their sins. I am His. 2 For day after day they seek me out; This is me. "Seems eager" to know His Ways. "Seems eager to come near". The "seems" needs to be turned into an action word. 3 'Why have we fasted,' they say, Oh yeah. Me. "Well Lord, I do xyz and didn't you see"? Like He doesn't SEE everything. Sometimes I am so dumb. 4 Your fasting ends in quarreling and strife, I don't know what "quarreling and strife or wicked fists" is but I will tell you my 'fasting' will get the same results. Because its not good. 5 Is this the kind of fast I have chosen, For me God is saying "stop putting on a show and get real, knock off all the drama, and LISTEN to me" 6 "Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: This is a huge verse. I 'fast' for silly stuff (oh it may seem big to me, but compared to verse 6? SILLY STUFF) and He is showing me that He is SO much more........... 7 Is it not to share your food with the hungry Hmmmmmm wow. No where do I see anything like what the 'world' tells me. No where in this verse does it say...."volunteer for this program, sign up to do this on Sunday, give X amount of money" It says........be ready, spot on. Be ready at any SECOND to give. 8 Then your light will break forth like the dawn, I love the word "then".......... 9 Then you will call, and the LORD will answer; 10 and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry God says "ok, PAY ATTENTION........Verses 1-7, and now 8-12 He shows us our reward. It's all written down for me. How simple duh. 11 The LORD will guide you always; 12 Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins 13 "If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath 14 then you will find your joy in the LORD,
Ok........."IF you keep your feet from breaking Sabbath". That's huge. Understand this.........for 40+ years I have been conditioned, I have chosen, I have lived for Saturdays. I work on Saturdays (big money days) I do big projects on Saturdays. My kids play sports on Saturdays.................I do not honor "THE Sabbath". I do not honor it and the only "delight" in it is for myself. Not to honor or please God. I do what I want, go my own way.........I totally thumb my nose at God, and His Sabbath....... It's no wonder I am in the condition, I am in. Footnotes:

What can I do today, to "really focus on Him"? If I 'think' with my head, then that is all I am doing.......using my head. Hmmm, and my head is wrapped in flesh. Ok, skip that. If I just pick up the Word and read......then I am just reading with my eyes. Again, flesh. Ok Skip that. My heart. See, that's the real problem. My heart. Oh and the fact that I have my "running shoes" on. Yep, remember when the kids were 2-3 years old and when they got a new pair of tennis shoes, they would say "LOOK HOW FAST I CAN RUN NOW". Yeah, I have a pair of those on. Kids were right: You CAN run fast in them. So I need to sit down, untie the strings to my running shoes then Let HIM take them off. And while I am sitting still........hand Him my broken heart. He has the Perfect Glue to fix it. Why I won't sit still and give it to Him.......baffles me. Ok. Today. Sit down, untie shoes, allow the Lord to take them off. Hand the Lord my broken heart. Every piece. Then: Be still. Be still and know. Be still and know HE is God. GOD. He is God. KNOW He is God. Still know He is God. You can go hours or days without having more than a passing thought of Him. 2. You don’t have a strong desire to spend time with Him. 3. You don’t have a strong hunger for the Word; Bible reading is a “chore” – something to mark off your “to do” list. 4. Spending time in prayer is a burden/duty rather than a delight. 5. Your worship is formal, dry, lifeless, merely going through the motions. 6. Private prayer and worship are almost non-existent . . . cold and dry. 7. You are more concerned about physical health, well-being, and comfort than about the wellbeing and condition of your soul. 8. You crave physical food, while having little appetite for spiritual food. 9. You crave human companionship more than a relationship with Christ. 10. You spend more time and effort on your physical appearance than on cultivating inner spiritual beauty to please Christ. 11. Your heart toward Christ is cold and indifferent; not tender as it once was, not easily moved by the Word, talk of spiritual things, etc. 12. Christianity is more of a checklist than a relationship with Christ. 13. You measure spirituality (yours/others’) by performance rather than the condition of the heart. 14. Christianity is defined more what by what you “do” than who you “are” (“doing” vs. “being”). 15. Your obedience and service are motivated and fueled by expectations of others or a desire to impress others, more than by passion for Christ. 16. You are more concerned about what others think and pleasing them, than about what God knows and pleasing Christ. 17. Your service for Christ and others is motivated by a sense of duty or obligation. 18. You find yourself becoming resentful over the hardships and demands of serving Christ and others. 19. You can talk with others about kids, marriage, weather, and the news, but struggle to talk about the Lord and spiritual matters. 20. You have a hard time coming up with something fresh to share in a testimony service at church or when someone asks, “What’s God been doing in your life?” 21. You are formal, rigid, and up-tight about spiritual things, rather than joyful and winsome. 22. You are critical or harsh toward those who are doctrinally off-base or living in sin. 23. You enjoy secular songs, movies, and books more than songs or reading material that point you to Christ. © Revive Our Hearts. Used with permission. www.ReviveOurHearts.com 24. You prefer the company of people who don’t love Christ, to the company and fellowship of those who do. 25. You are more interested in recreation, entertainment, and having “fun” than in cultivating intimacy with Christ through worship, prayer, the Word, and Christian fellowship. 26. You display attitudes or are involved in activities that you know are contrary to Scripture, but you continue in them anyway. 27. You justify “small” areas of disobedience or compromise. 28. You have been drawn back into sin habits that you put off when you were a young believer. 29. “Little” things that used to disturb your conscience, no longer do. 30. You are slow to respond to conviction over sin – or you ignore it altogether. 31. You enjoy certain sins and want to hang onto them. You are unwilling to give them up for Christ. 32. You are not grieved by sin – it’s no big deal to you. 33. You are consistently allured by certain sins. 34. You are self-righteous--more concerned about sin in others’ lives than in your own. 35. You are more concerned about having the right position than the right disposition. 36. You tend to hold tightly to money and things, rather than being quick to give to meet the needs of others. 37. You rarely give sacrificially to the Lord’s work. 38. You rarely have a desire or burden to give, when you hear of legitimate financial needs within the Body, your church, or a ministry. 39. Accumulating and maintaining material “things” consumes more time and effort on your part than seeking after and cultivating spiritual riches. 40. You have broken relationships with other believers that you are unwilling or have not attempted to reconcile. 1"To the angel of the church in seven stars in his right hand, who walks among the seven golden lampstands. 2"'I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false. 3I know you are enduring patiently and bearing up for my name’s sake, and you have not grown weary. 4But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first. 5Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent. . . . 7He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.' Hebrews 11 goes on to talk about all the pillars of Faith in the OT. The way I am reading it is this: Faith first, then action follows. Or, because they had Faith, they were called to action. There are days I struggle with: am I "doing" enough for the Lord. Then I ask: What is it He wants me to "do"? That takes me to the Scripture: Love the Lord, My God, with all my heart, mind, soul and strength, and Love my neighbor as myself. Tall order to fill when you really think about it....... 08:32 - Sunday, June 29, 2008 - comments {0} - post commentSERVICE OF PASSIONATE DEVOTION"Lovest thou Me? . . . Feed My sheep." John 21:16 Jesus did not say - Make converts to your way of thinking, but look after My sheep, see that they get nourished in the knowledge of Me. We count as service what we do in the way of Christian work; Jesus Christ calls service what we are to Him, not what we do for Him. Discipleship is based on devotion to Jesus Christ, not on adherence to a belief or a creed. "If any man come to Me and hate not . . . , he cannot be My disciple." There is no argument and no compulsion, but simply - If you would be My disciple, you must be devoted to Me. A man touched by the Spirit of God suddenly says - "Now I see Who Jesus is," and that is the source of devotion. To-day we have substituted credal belief for personal belief, and that is why so many are devoted to causes and so few devoted to Jesus Christ. People do not want to be devoted to Jesus, but only to the cause He started. Jesus Christ is a source of deep offense to the educated mind of to-day that does not want Him in any other way than as a Comrade. Our Lord's first obedience was to the will of His Father, not to the needs of men; the saving of men was the natural outcome of His obedience to the Father. If I am devoted to the cause of humanity only, I will soon be exhausted and come to the place where my love will falter; but if I love Jesus Christ personally and passionately, I can serve humanity though men treat me as a door-mat. The secret of a disciple's life is devotion to Jesus Christ, and the characteristic of the life is its unobtrusiveness. It is like a corn of wheat, which falls into the ground and dies, but presently it will spring up and alter the whole landscape (John 12:24).
"Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest, June 19, 2008" 08:19 - Thursday, June 19, 2008 - comments {0} - post commentOne of God's Great DON'TS !!!"Fret not thyself, it tendeth only to evil doing." Psalm 37:8 (R.V.) Fretting means getting out at elbows mentally or spiritually. It is one thing to say "Fret not," but a very different thing to have such a disposition that you find yourself able not to fret. It sounds so easy to talk about "resting in the Lord" and "waiting patiently for Him" until the nest is upset - until we live, as so many are doing, in tumult and anguish, is it possible then to rest in the Lord? If this "don't" does not work there, it will work nowhere. This "don't" must work in days of perplexity as well as in days of peace, or it never will work. And if it will not work in your particular case, it will not work in anyone else's case. Resting in the Lord does not depend on external circumstances at all, but on your relationship to God Himself. Fussing always ends in sin. We imagine that a little anxiety and worry are an indication of how really wise we are; it is much more an indication of how really wicked we are. Fretting springs from a determination to get our own way. Our Lord never worried and He was never anxious, because He was not "out" to realize His own ideas; He was "out" to realize God's ideas. Fretting is wicked if you are a child of God. Have you been bolstering up that stupid soul of yours with the idea that your circumstances are too much for God? Put all "supposing" on one side and dwell in the shadow of the Almighty. Deliberately tell God that you will not fret about that thing. All our fret and worry is caused by calculating without God.
Big fat eye opener for me. I was reading this the other night and about fell out of bed. My oldest gets on me ALL the time for fretting..........funny enough, this entry? It's on her birthday, July 4th!!
03:00 - Wednesday, June 18, 2008 - comments {2} - post commentLord, what about him??John 21:20-2520 Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved was following them. (This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and had said, "Lord, who is going to betray you?") 21 When Peter saw him, he asked, "Lord, what about him?" 22 Jesus answered, "If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me." THE FIRST thing that popped into my head when I read this was: 1 Thessalonians 9:11-12 11 Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, 12 so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.
23 Because of this, the rumor spread among the brothers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he only said, "If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?"satan has been spreading rumors ever since. even among God's People.Again. Mind my own business. 24 This is the disciple who testifies to these things and who wrote them down. We know that his testimony is true. 25 Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written. I love this. It's a reminder that what I 'do' is not as important as 'who I love'.
I love Scripture.
08:07 - Monday, June 16, 2008 - comments {0} - post commentWhat kind of Fruit is growing in my Orchard???So I am having an conversation with my oldest. The question asked of me is "Don't you read your Bible everyday?" My answer? I said: well, almost everyday. I have been chastised by my child!! Good. I needed it.We went on to discuss how I "chose" to "Love" yesterday........and how I need to make that choice every day. So this Scripture has popped into my mind today: Galatians 5 Freedom in Christ1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.2 Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all. 3 Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law. Hmmm I Paul saying "you who want to live by the letter of the Law are 'slaves' to the Law? That if you chose to live this way, Christ is nothing to you?? YIKES.I think I will chose Christ, and His freedom. 4 You who are trying to be justified by law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. 5 But by faith we eagerly await through the Spirit the righteousness for which we hope. 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. Ok, the only thing that counts. Faith, expressing itself through love. Not what 'rule' I follow or what 'church' I go to. But my Faith in Christ, and my Faith in action in the form of Love.... 7 You were running a good race. Who cut in on you and kept you from obeying the truth? 8 That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you. 9 "A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough." 10 I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion will pay the penalty, whoever he may be. This is where I am sure that it's the Word only that is to lead me. "Someone" in these verses (another human) has "cut in, throwing me into confusion". The Holy Spirit is clear that "the one throwing you into confusion will pay the penalty". 11 Brothers, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished. 12 As for those agitators, I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves! Agitators. Would that be "pot-stirrers"? Would that be "finger pointers, and rigid rule keepers"? The Spirit is less than thrilled with who ever these "agitators" are........I don't want to be an agitator. 13 You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature[a]; rather, serve one another in love. Called to be "free". BUT. Do not abuse this freedom. Do not misuse this freedom. Do not take this freedom of God and try to execute it in your flesh. Stay humble, serve on another IN LOVE. That whole "love" thing keeps coming up.......... 14 The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your neighbor as yourself."[b] Right here, for me, this is a big big verse. I just know the Lord is trying to tell me something here.......... 15 If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. Hmmmmm Life by the Spirit16 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.17 For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law. 19 The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; These are physical outward manifestations of the inward rotten heart. These are pretty obvious. You can see these with your eyes. 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions This list for me: this one is harder to spot. This list can be kept in the heart, and in the mind, and you may not see an outward sign of them. This list is the 'rotten heart' list. This list of things will ruin a person from the inside out..... 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. Wow. Will NOT inherit the Kingdom of God. Wow. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.I have often wondered. Are these in a particular order? Did the Lord put these in an order of importance? Like is Love the very first Fruit of the Spirit? Should this be the FIRST fruit I work on? Once I have "love" then joy will follow? When I love, joyfully, then I will have peace? Once I understand the Love Christ had for me, it brings me joy, and peace.......and then Patience for others who do not yet know what I know? And this Patience, leads me to be Kind because Jesus was Patient with me? And then from that the Goodness of Christ takes me over, Deepens my Faith to Him, makes me Gentle to others...........and finally, once I Love Him, He gives me Joy and Peace, I then have Patience with those who don't know Him, and in Kindness I share Him with them, The Goodness of Christ in me shines through and my Faith in Him is strengthened, He then takes off my 'rough edges' and replaces them with His Gentleness........once all of these Fruits have shown themselves on my Tree call life; then and only then will I have 'self-control'? I better get to work!!! :-) 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.I think The Holy Spirit, through Paul, was speaking to "Believers"...........so is He telling us / warning us to "knock it off"?? Romans 13:8-9 8 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law. 9 The commandments, "Do not commit adultery," "Do not murder," "Do not steal," "Do not covet,"[a] and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: "Love your neighbor as yourself."[b] Footnotes:
"He who loves his fellow man, HAS fulfilled the Law" and All the commandments are summed up in one rule: "Love your neighbor as yourself". What can I do today, to love my neighbor? How can I put this Love in Action? How will anyone know I belong to Him??? 1 John 4:6-8 6 We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit[a] of truth and the spirit of falsehood. 7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. Footnotes:
That's big. "Whoever does not love" "Does not know God" So, no matter "what I say", if I do not "show" love......... I don't know God. Because He IS Love. I chose Love today. I chose Love. 08:24 - Saturday, June 14, 2008 - comments {1} - post commentMatthew 7Matthew 7:13-23The Narrow and Wide Gates13 "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.Wide gate (so many can fit through at one time) and broad road (because so many are walking the path at the same time). This says to me........if everyone else is doing it; Beware 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. I see a 'small gate' to go thru to enter Heaven........but now I also see a 'narrow road' to walk on to get to that 'small gate'. A Tree and Its Fruit15 "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.Watch out: Ok, in order to watch out, that means I have to use discernment with Scriptures, to make a 'judgement' if someone is a false prophet. I find it 'ironic' that they "Come in sheep's clothing". Jesus addressed that "their outside appearance looks good" BUT: "inwardly they are (not 'like' but ARE) ferocious wolves". Well YIKES So, if they are in a suit and tie, or a jumper and headcover, leather and jeans, Jesus T Shirt and shorts..........DON'T LOOK at the outside, it could be a trick! 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. Fruit. Ok. When my fruit trees bear fruit, I will know they are doing what they are supposed to be doing!! My apple trees will not produce grapes. Same with God's People. If they are 'living and doing' His Will...we, who are in the Word and KNOW what His Will is.........will recognize them as Fellow Believers....... 21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?'
"Only those who do the Will of the Father will enter". What is His Will? What does my 'fruit' look like? Do I have any fruit? Lord, lead me...........lead me.

The end of my BSFI will preface this with: No Bible study / study guide written by man is 100% flawless. I grumped and protested a few things about my Bible study this year.........but it forced me to dig in deep, get into the original languages......find out cultural history, grow closer to the Lord. I still highly recommend Bible Study Fellowship. This week was the last week of group lessons. This is what I am chewing on right now........ Matthew 28:16-20 NIV 16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew 28:16-20 KJV 16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. 17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Jesus spoke and said: "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.This says to me: All, that means everything. All, in totality. All Authority. Look up Authority in your Websters, and in the Greek. It's beautiful. ALL AUTHORITY in Heaven and Earth. Well ok, that covers it. That's everything!! All of it He has Authority over. He's in control. Shewwee. Thank you Jesus. Therefore go He said "go". Go is a verb. Verbs show action. Go. Make disciples of all nations Disciple in Greek means: mathetes=A disciple was not only a pupil, but and adherent; hence they are spoken of as imitators of their teacher. A learner. Baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. The outward obedience of the inward change. Take me to the water!! And teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And teaching. That means I have to know Scripture. And teaching them to obey, EVERYTHING: Hmmmmm. That's a tall order. Love the Lord your God, and Love your neighbor as yourself. That's a tall order. Jesus didn't change or rearrange Genesis to Malachi. He didn't rearrange it, change it, abolish it, demolish it. He fulfilled it. Nothing has changed. AND there is nothing "new" in the New Testament. It is the fulfillment of the Old. He wants me to teach others to obey everything He has commanded. Ok......... And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." A PROMISE!! He, Jesus Christ, is with me always, to the very end of the age!! He is with me. 08:45 - Friday, May 16, 2008 - comments {1} - post commentEcclesiastes 5:1-7Stand in Awe of God1 Guard your steps when you go to the house of God.Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong. 2 Do not be quick with your mouth, 3 As a dream comes when there are many cares, so the speech of a fool when there are many words. 4 When you make a vow to God, do not delay in fulfilling it. Like burning a bridge, one cannot go back. The victorious life is hindered by the memory and discouragement of past failures. Some people cannot live the abundant life because they cultivate a root of bitterness over past injustice. **To participate in Christ's burial is to put away once and for all the old ways of thinking, former wrong emotions, and attitudes toward God, others, and oneself, in order to be completely free from the past o live a new "resurrected" life. Matthew 26:41 KJV Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. **To Participate. To be part of? To do the same as?
