Tuesday, May 27, 2008Children and Memmorial DayPosted in ChildrenYesterday, Memmorial Day, my family and I were at my sister-in-laws so that my husband could help her husband on their bathroom. During that time, the local VFW's honor guard did the salute to our fallen soldiers. 7 guard members did the 21 gun salute by firing 3 times each. My daughter, who is 8, wanted to know why. I explained to her that it was to honor and remember those who fight, have fought, and have died for our country. I also told her that every time she sees a man or woman in unform, she needs to tell them thank you. She asked why. I told her that without them fighting and protecting us and our country, for our freedoms, we would not and could not do some of the things we do and take for granted. Now, my daughter is shy, so getting her to talk to someone she does not know is next to impossible, but when one of the honor guard walked by, she told him thank you. I almost cried, that is how proud she made me. Children understand more than we think, and my daughter proved that a hundred fold. | 1 comments | Link Leave a Comment { Last Page } { Page 3 of 12 } { Next Page } |
