First Socks!
Okay, I already posted these on my Ravelry but thought I'd toss them up here as well. I knitted my first pair of socks! They're for my darling husband, whose fave color is orange, and he loves them! They match, too!
hehe
I used Lamb's Pride Worsted and size 5 bamboo needles.

I've already started my second pair of socks. These are for me, using ShoeFly Sock yarn in Ruby Redmond. It's 80% merino and 20% nylon. I'm not sure how I feel about the nylon but the lady at Allyn Knit Shop recommended that I use it when knitting socks. We'll see!

I love how your socks turned out. I need to find a pattern for making cotton ones. (I'm allergic to wool) Thanks for sharing the picture.
Blessings,

You did awesome! I LOVE socks, my favorite thing to knit. I have several pairs, but I hate darning, and they all need it, lol. I am going to make resolable socks next. I'd rather reknitt the sole than darn!
Nylon in the yarn will give it more memory, and make the sock more sturdy. Mohair will give you sturdy, but you need really springy wool to get close to the memory that nylon has. I am allergic to nylon, so can't go there, I stick with the natural fibers.
I knitted DD some socks from cotton yarn. You can use any pattern, just knit a swatch with your needles to see if you have the right size for the yarn you choose, and knit away! I also have seen several 'patterns' where you can measure the foot you want to knit the sock for, choose the weight of yarn you'll use, coordinating needle size, and knit away! Now, if I can find on that has the reknittable sole, or I'll have to incorperate the two patterns, somehow.

your yarn shop lady is correct! You need the nylon to reinforce the sock, especially the toe and heel to help it wear longer. without the nylon, you will be knitting a new pair each week.
