• Saturday, December 9, 2006 - Got a suggestion from a reader

I got a comment from one of my readers so I ased if it was ok to post and she was happy with that. This was in response to a post I made about the baking soda facial scrub. I haven't had a chance to try this out yet but I will and let you all know what I think of it. I have used the baking soda and water and I love it!

Below is the message I got.

Hi,

We mix the honey and baking soda together. No exact measurements, we just mix up about a cup full of the scrub and leave it in the bathroom. I think I probably use half honey and half baking soda and just a tiny bit of water till I get a good mixture that is easy to use without crumbling all over the place. Play around with it till you get the consistency that you like, I like it to give me a good scrubbing.
We just wet our face and scrub with our homemade scrub and rinse. I think it would be good for an all over body scrub, I will try it and let you know what I think .It is OK with me if you post my suggestions.
Thanks for checking out our blog!!

• Thursday, December 7, 2006 - I found this and I had to post it

I LOVE this song! Don't ask me why, I just do. I found this site and I am posting the song. I was dispointed this site doesn't have more Christian artists. None the less its still a good site.

BTW, the song automatically plays, I don't know how to stop it just click on the stop button. Sorry about that.

• Thursday, December 7, 2006 - What do you think?

I was listening to a local Christian radio station the other day and they were talking about a government building that put out Christmas items. They had the nativity scene but MISSING Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus. After a huge fuss they put them back in saying they didn't want to offend non Christians celebrating Christmas, so they ended up putting out a reindeer nearby the nativity scene for non Christians celebrating Christmas. A lawyer then made a comment saying legally if a government place puts out a nativity scene to keep out of trouble they have to include Santa, a snowman, etc.

This story got me thinking. How can people who are Non Christians celebrate Christmas? Isn't the celebrating Christmas the celebration of the birth of Jesus? Isn't that what they day is for? It may not be the day he was born, but it is the day set aside to give praise and remember Jesus birth. I just don't understand why some Non Christians want to take Jesus out of our holiday. If they are getting offended at the site of Jesus or anything relating to religion they need to understand this is what Christmas is about.

The commercialized comments that everyone should be allowed to celebrate Christmas bother me, it got me thinking a lot about this.  I don't celebrate Kwanzaa or Hanuka, I don't ask the people who do to take their festive things down so I wont be offended. When I see their items of celebration I am happy for them.

So what is it the sudden, and by sudden its been big the last few years to be anti Christian. I just don't get it. Feel free to add your thoughts. Its just mind numbing to me how closed minded people can be to something they don't agree with. I have seen more hate from people who are anti Christian, than Christians  trying to save people.

• Thursday, December 7, 2006 - Older child chore chart

http://www.chartjungle.com/chores/chorechartfilm.html

If you have older kids who do chorse you may wnat to click the link. It is a free download chore chart. It is a good way to have in writing what your child needs to do so that they can clearly see what you expect of them.

We have child #1 help out. She is almost 6 so we have her doing some simple things such as putting her clothing away after I fold it, or helping to set the table for a meal. We take out what is needed and she puts them at the table where they belong. We have also started taking our kids out 1 at a time for a special treat and 1 on 1 time with Mom or Dad. They love this and it ahs been going well for us.

• Tuesday, December 5, 2006 - Salt Dough Ornament Recipe

http://www.allfreecrafts.com/christmas/salt-dough-ornaments.shtml

Supplies:

  • 4 cups of flour

  • 1 cup of salt

  • 1-1/2 cups of hot water

  • holiday cookie cutters

  • decorations - glitter, paint, beads, etc.
  • Microwave Salt Dough Ornaments

    Directions:

    1. Half of the dough recipe featured above is enough to make all the ornaments shown above, plus some extras. You will also need paint in red, green, white, and gold, plus green glitter paint, and trims such as iridescent stars, pom poms, mini candy cane erasers, and glitter chenille stems.

    2. Use Christmas cookie cutters to cut a variety of snowmen, Christmas trees and stars. Use a toothpick to make a hole for hanging, being sure to make the hole a little larger than you will want as they tend to close when baking.

    3. Microwave a plate of your ornaments for 2 to 4 minutes, depending on how many ornaments you have on each plate and the size of your microwave. Increase cooking by 2 minute increments until dough appears fairly dry. Let cool.

    4. Snowmen: Base coat white. Paint hats black. Use paint or markers for eyes, nose, mouth and buttons. You can also use paint to add a scarf, unless you are using chenille stems. Take one chenille stem and, leaving enough stem to form an arm on the left, wrap the stem around the neck, and form another arm on the right. Cut off excess stem and bend each end in a 1/4" to form hands. Add mini candy cane erasers if desired.

    5. Stars: Base coat white or gold. Add green glitter paint, or outline with gold paint or glitter paint, if desired. Glue an iridescent star in the middle of each ornament. Take a chenille stem and, leaving a little extra at the top to form half a loop, bend the stem around each star point, pushing in with your fingers until the stem will retain the star shape. You will find the stem ends at the top with some extra left over. Bend both of these end lengths together to form a hanging loop.

    6. Christmas Trees: Base coat green, then re-paint with green glitter paint. Add gold and white accents in a "garland" effect, then use red to add red "balls" to the tree. Glue sparkly pom poms or two iridescent stars glue together on top of the tree if desired.

Suggestions: These are just some of the possibilities for decorating your microwaved salt dough ornaments. This is also a good kid's craft or group project - just microwave several batches of ornaments and provide a variety of paints, markers and embellishments to let everyone excercise creativity. Properly dried the ornaments should last for years.

    • Monday, December 4, 2006 - Blah Day

I was supposed to go out last night after hubby got out of work and buy a small gift bag for my sisters birthday gifts I am giving her tomorrow for her birthday. I was feeling bad last night from my stupid cold and I didn't go to the store.

Wait it gets better. This week child #1 has a gift shop at her achool. It starts today and I don't know what day her class goes to it. I wanted to give her money to buy us gifts. I am so upset, hubby is at work and I don't have any cash to give her. I think I will write a letter to her teacher and ask if I can escort child #1 tomorrow before or after school so she can buy her gifts. I was looking forward to child #1 buying some gifts for us. I know she will be very excited to do that.

    • Sunday, December 3, 2006 - A refreshing Sunday

I am finally feeling better. I have been battling a cold for a few days now and I can finally say I am feeling better.

A few days ago someone from a local Autism school called and made a few appointments to evauluate child #2 in mid January. I have been told they do not take on what they call high functioning children with Autism, but I have been told to stress how she is a danger to herself and her sisters, and how she will with now warning dart away from us. I am praying they take her on and start the help she needs. Also, I have an appointment for her  in January for a neurologist. Hopefully I can get a medical diagnosis for her soon.

Child #1 is doing well, she got awarded a certificate on Friday last week for student of the month of November. I am so proud of her. Child #3 and I suprised her by going to her school and I took many pics of her. I am hoping to have my husband help me load the pics to the computer soon so I can post some. I am so proud of my big girl!

Child #3 is doing well. Not much to report, she is her normal happy go lucky self. I fear I have shared my cold with her but she seems ok.

My younger sisters birthday is Dec 5th and I have set aside her gifts today with child #1. She is coming over on Tuesday to get her presents. I sent her a link to this blog so I wont post what we are giving her. I will take some pics and post them after I give them to her so she doesn't see early what she is getting. If you see this post Happy Birthday Alison!!

I feel yucky. I have been taking cold meds and vit C and I think that is helping. I took hubby to work today because my oldest is getting an award at her school today. She is in kindergarden and is being honored for doing so well. I am so happy for her! I am going to the school assembly today  and I am brining my youngest and I will be taking pics. Luckily #2 is in school today, there would be no way I could go if I had to bring her.

Later on I will post pics of my oldest with the award she gets.

    • Monday, November 27, 2006 - Fabric Freshener Spray

All you need is some LIQUID FABRIC SOFTENER, some water and a spray bottle. Pour a few tablespoons of the fabric softener in the bottle, add water until nearly full. Shake well before each use. Works just like the expensive fabric freshener sprays! (Sort of like Febreeze/Febreze spray...also is a great way to use up a little bit of leftover fabric softener liquid.)

DISCLAIMER: I got this from a website. I haven't tried it yet.  I will be posting more from thsi site shortly so I am not posting the link. Although, if you want the link just let me know and I will add it.

    • Saturday, November 25, 2006 - Snowflake Decoration

    http://www.highlightskids.com/Express/Crafts/Decorations/C1297_coffeefilterSnowflake.asp

    What you need:

    • waxed paper
    • nine coffee filters
    • cups
    • water
    • food coloring
    • spoon
    • scissors
    • hole punch
    • thread
    Craft Image

    How to make it:

    1. Place some waxed paper on a waterproof work surface. On the waxed paper make three stacks of three coffee filters each.

    2. Fill three cups with water. Add a few drops of food coloring to each cup.

    3. With a spoon, add drops of colored water to each stack of filters. One, two, or all three colors can be used on each stack. Let the filters dry, then separate the stacks.

    4. To make a snowflake, fold a filter in half. Fold it in half again, then fold it in half once more.

    5. Using scissors, cut off the pointed top from the folded filter. Then cut out small, unconnected triangles and half-circles from along the edges of the folded filter.

    6. Unfold the filter. Punch a hole at the edge of the snowflake, and hang it by a thread.

Sounds like this is better for older children to do.
