Well it's that time of year again. The days are shorter, the trees are more colorful and college football is in full tilt. (GO VOLS!) It's fall - yall.
Last night we had some of our friends out for a hayride / bonfire / supper. I think it is safe to say, a good time was had by all. We started at 4pm and wrapped things up about 11pm. It made for a tired family today, but we would do it again next weekend if everbody else was game.
Here is a photo of our bonfire after several hours of burning. Notice Mary Jane the marshmallow eating Mastiff to the right in the pic.

Our church has a hayride, bonfire, wiener roast every Oct. It is a lot of fun. But some years we are still under the usual "summer drought fire ban" and have to forgo the bonfire. this year we were fortunate and the ban had been lifted.

Sounds like fun! We have been trying to plan a hayride w/our hs teen group, but we've unsucessful in locating a wagon to borrow. Most everyone around here have horses (like y'all) and their hay wagons are horsedrawn - we need a "tractor wagon".... oh well, there's always the spring.....
I'd be w/the dog eating the marshie-mallows........

That looks like a lot of fun. I've never been on a hay ride, however went on my first horse drawn sleigh ride this summer and it was fun.

In answer to your questions - we don't have any Amish around here. How I wish we did. There also isn't any store where you can get damaged goods, as per your comment on my blog.
As to deer meat, I cook mine pretty much like I do beef. I put roasts in my slow cooker, add some onion soup and let it simmer for the day. I use the deer burger in everything I would normally use hamburger for. We no longer buy beef so deer burger fits the bill perfectly. I don't know about your deer, however where we live the deer eat mostly grain so they don't have has much of a wild taste.
Thanks for stopping at my blog.
