Wednesday, November 19, 2008 - Apple Grunt in a Cast Iron Dutch Oven

Posted in Homemaking
Apple Grunt
(Cape Cod Apple Pudding)

Put in a deep saucepan
3 cups peeled sliced tart apples
   3/4 cup sugar
   1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg or cinnamon (or both)

Cook until apples are tender, adding a little water, if necessary, to keep the apples from burning.
Wile the apples are cooking, prepare
   Baking Powder Biscuit dough
Roll out and spread over the apples.
Cover tightly.  Cook 15 minutes over moderate heat.  Turn out and serve with
   Cream

I use a small cast iron dutch oven.  I make my biscut dough with extra milk to make it just barely poorable so I can just glop it on top.  We also prefer it with ice cream.

Let me know what you think!

About Me

Welcome! Grab a cup and kick off your shoes. I'm a homeschooling mommy to six precious young'ns. Four girls and two boys models '91-'06. I love all kinds of crafts, especially sewing and scrapbooking. I am also learning to knit and crochet. We live in a hundred year old fixer upper farm house on 50 acres in the boonies. We have goats, horses, cows, dogs, cats, chickens, peacocks and a pigeon. My hubby is a self-employed oil field electrician who likes computers. Everyday is an adventure around here!
