Steak Subs
I signed up to participate in Karen's "In the Kitchen" on Mondays, and then between raising my brother's babies for three weeks, Cub Scouts and my friend's move, have been unable to blog much.
As I said before, I am not much for making original recipes, but do like to tweak recipes I find. For today's In The Kitchen, I am simply going to post my "recipe" for tonight's dinner. As I sit here and blog, I can smell the cooked onions and peppers that I just got down preparing. (I will be gone helping my friends move some more stuff until dinnertime, so I am doing as much now as possible.
I am also happy to say that everything in this recipe can be found at Aldi's, one of my favorite "frugal" grocery stores.
Steak Subs 3 green peppers 3 onions 3 boxes Philly-Gourmet Steaks for Sandwiches (or something similar - in the frozen section) Hoagie rolls mozarella cheese
Fry up your onions and peppers with some olive oil. In a second frying pan, place the strips of this 100% beef steak in a little bit of grease at medium-high heat. This "steak" comes in paper thin sheets that you simply break up into strips and put in the frying pan - it's great.
Put the steak, and the green pepper and onion mixture, onto the Hoagie rolls. I leave the vegetables seperate from the steak because some people like a little bit of peppers and onions and some people like a lot. Slice the cheese and place it on top fo the mixture. Put the rolls in the oven, open side up, for a few moments. Then turn on your broiler. Once you turn the broiler on, keep a really good eye on them or they'll burn in a heartbeart (trust me, I know)! Broil them until the cheese melts and the bread toasts. Okay, I realize this is a simple and not very specific recipe, but all the men in my life - my husband, his best friend, my brothers - love this! I serve it with some baby gherkin pickles and some ranch Doritos and they think it's better than steak and potatoes!
