I caught my first fish!

My first fish! I have been fishing many times with my husband and children, but I have never actually fished. A couple of days ago when my husband wanted me to go fishing with him, I said, “what's the point?” Whenever I go with him I end up babysitting our 4-year-old while he and the other kids fish. I can do that at home and get some stuff done, too! It has always been this way, but I usually go anyway just because I know Mark likes to share with me the things that interest him. But this time I really didn't want to go, and he knew it. Did I mention we have to get up at 5 a.m. to go fishing before the 102 degree weather comes on? See the sun rising above the trees at the lake in the picture above? So he promised he would help watch Adam and I could actually fish, too.

Here's Mark keeping an eye on Adam so I could fish. Notice that it is still pretty dark. This was before the sun came up all the way.

But I did catch my first fish, a crappie. Techinically, it wasn't my first fish. Before I caught the crappie, I caught a tiny brim, but I wasn't really fishing at the time. Let me explain.

A fish had cleaned the worm off my hook, and I was walking to the other end of the pier to grab another worm from the bowl. As I walked, I was dragging my baitless line in the lake when all the sudden the hook in the water snagged on something and stopped me in my tracks. I simply lifted the pole up out of the water and there was a small brim on the other end! Now technically, this was the first fish I ever caught, but I was so shocked I just stood there holding my pole over the lake. The brim looked at me and jumped right off my hook back into the lake before I could get its photo!

Oh, did I mention I also baited my own hooks with slimy, wriggly worms? Aren’t you proud of me? At least Adam was more than willing to dig them out of the bowl so I wouldn't get dirt under my fingernails!

EDITED: Okay, I really didn't want to put this cheesy picture of my fish and I on here, but my husband says I can't write about my first fish and NOT put the picture on here.

Congrats! Fishing is so much fun!! I used to love to go fishing with my Dad and brothers when I was growing up. Now hubby won't even take me fishing or go along. :(

This would be a good entry to the Carnival of Homesteading, if you'd consider entering it, or another article. Check my blog for details. Thanks!

Woooo Whooooo, I enjoy fishing, I grew up fishing, I just have not been in about 15 plus years. One time on a fishing trip with my family, not only did I catch the largest fish, I also caught the most...I think it was 7 fish.... a great memory for me as a little child.
