• Saturday, August 9, 2008 - making quilts

I have been helping my mom clean out my grandparents house.  We came across some old clothes my grandmother wore when I really little.  They were in great shape, so I decided, I am going to make quilt blocks out of them.  I am going to try and have enough to make a quilt.  They are 100% polyester, so they will make a nice warm quilt.  I already have two quilts made out of polyester material and they are heavy, warm quilts.  I use them when it is really cold outside.  I have washed and washed them and they still look like new.  I found a bunch of my grandpaws old blue jeans.  I have start a blue jean quilt and I am going to add pieces of them to it.
We start back to school Monday.   I was going to start last Monday but we went camping.    We really had a nice time.  Beth starts college Aug. 18.  She is only going two days a week. That will help with gas.   She has decided to move back home. She decided it was cheaper to live at home.  I knew when she moved out, it wouldn`t be long, she be back.
I don`t know if I have ever posted about this or not.  One of our goals to get back to living a simple life is getting out of debt.    Hopefully we will be completely debt free with in the next 6 mos.. We have been working hard to get to this point.   I am not trying to brag or anything like that.   At one time, we really had a lot of debt.   It wasn`t fun.  Thats when we decided to go back to the old ways of doing things.  The way our grandparents done things.  How they managed money and how they paid for things. It has really worked for us.  God made it possible for us too.
I am trying to get back to my old schedule for school.  I usually do all my cleaning on Saturday.   I have been trying to get my cleaning done today and so far I am not doing to good.  I guess, I should get off the computer and finish up my cleaning.

Both of my parents have passed, and I have saved all of my dad's neckties. He used to sell insurance and dressed up for his job often, and also for church. I love those ties and so many of them bring back memories of him wearing them. I am not sure exactly what to make with them yet, but I have been collecting ideas for wall hangings, and quilts as well. I love making quilts from fabrics that mean something. I hope you will post some pictures of yours!!

Congratulations on getting so close to being debt free!!!!! It isn't bragging, it is encouraging to others to do the same. We had a large bill come up this year, and we are making large payments on it, but it will still take until December of 2009 to get it paid off! And then we will be debt free except for our mortgage!!! YEAH!!! We are also in the midst of refinancing our home mortgage for a lower locked in interest rate and lower payments. We will then make double payments and be able to pay the house off so much earlier, possibly is about 9 years!

God's Blessings,
Amy Jo
