I always look forward to this time of the year. I love to work in the garden and I love to can. I know this will sound funny but I was a good size kid before I realized you could buy canned vegetables in the store. Because everyone I knew canned. I always wondered why the corn at school didn`t taste like it did at home.
As I was picking corn yesterday, I remembered my papaw and me picking corn. We would bring bucket fulls up to the yard, where my mamaw would have a couple of wash tubs ready. We would shuck the corn and put them in the wash tubs. Wash and clean the silks off. Sometimes we would cut the corn off, while sitting in the yard or sometimes we would go in the kitchen. I sure miss being able to garden and can with my grandparents. Great memories I will cherish always.
I wish, I could can like my mamaw did. She canned every thing. I just miss her so bad.
I have to go string beans.
