Wal-Mart, Stoplights and Escalators

Shared in Anything Else

“Whoops, sorry. Oh, excuse me. Ah, sorry ‘bout that. Whoa, ‘scuse us, Ah, sorry,”

This is what it’s like shopping on the Saturday before Christmas. People everywhere. Bustling, scurrying, pushing, grabbing, snatching, arguing, doing just about anything you can imagine. My dad, Kelcee, Kam and I did our yearly Christmas shopping for my mom.  There’s something special about our annual trip that sets it apart from other shopping excursions. I don't know what it is. But we always enjoy just being with each other and having a goal in mind. (If there’s one thing worse than shopping it’s wandering aimlessly from one item to the next, not actually knowing what you’re doing.) I strongly think that Wal-Mart should put up stoplights during the holiday season. I mean, really. How are you supposed to see around the corners? Picture this, I’m sure you been in this place too:

You spot the rest of your family on the isle across from you. You have the buggy and, in order to reach your family, you have to cross the main isle. So you push the cart briskly down the isle and when you reach the end of the isle you lean forward on the bar to better see in front of you.  All of a sudden, another cart comes flying out in front of you and you almost crash. You smile and apologize, but the stressed driver of the other cart shoots you an exasperated look that says, “Watch out! Be careful!”

How do they expect you to be able to see in front of a buggy that’s 4x as long as you are? It’s like driving a car from the back seat! Nevertheless, we had fun!

In the mall, Kelcee and I got to try something we always wanted to do. Ever since we read a book entitled “Ginger Pie,”(that told of the instance that inspired our wanting to do this thing,) we had wanted to try to run up the down escalator. Well, we got our chance. Daddy read the warning signs. Nothing said anything about running up the down stairs. No one was coming, so up the escalator Kelcee sprinted. “Go Kelc!” Daddy and I offered encouragement. She reached the top grinning. “Come on Kember!” She invited. I was more than ready! Handing my bag to daddy, I took to the stairs. First I tried bounding up two at a time. Running worked much better! Ah, reached the top! Fun! Kelcee and I were thrilled. Who knew malls could be so fun?

Yes, Christmas is a busy time. I still think Wal-Mart should invest in stoplights.

Tracting at the Festival

Shared in Anything Else

On Saturday we went to an arts and crafts festival to hand out tracts. There were thousands of people wandering around, looking at the different booths. We found our church’s water booth and began handing out Giant Money, Million Dollar Bills and Smart Cards. We were all amazed at how many rejects we got; the people seemed not to want to take anything from anybody. (But nobody could resist taking a million dollar bill from my 2-year-old brother. )  I approached a certain lady and said my customary, “Excuse me, did you get one of these?” She looked at the Giant Money, scanned the back and abruptly pushed it into my hands. “That’s a waste of paper,” she stated. At the time I just smiled and took it back, (don’t throw pearls before swine), but it wasn’t until that night that the weight of her words hit me. It wasn’t merely a piece of paper that she had rejected, it was her eternal salvation. Maybe one day, her heart will be open to the Gospel and she will see her need of the Savior.

My sister and Brandon (another friend from church) had a couple of good conversations and my mom got to witness to a vendor that actually invited her to his booth so they could continue talking. My nine y/o brother handed out Smart Cards and talked to six ladies, (three at a time.)

Handing out tracts is so much fun! A lady from our church who was running the water booth said, “I love watching people’s reactions!”

Along with the rejects we got, there were many people who received the tracts joyfully. In fact, once I walked across the street (that was roped off for the festival) I handed a Giant Money to a lady who was browsing over some jewelry. I told her “There’s something for you to read on the back.” The guy who was running the booth then said, “Lemme see one of those. I wanna see what it says.” I gladly gave him one.

We distributed close 300 tracts in 2 ½ hours.

When we got home, it was almost dark. The Western sky was tinged with just a little bit of light blue, but the rest of the sky was black. I was playing with our dog, Lucky, when my mom came out of the house and asked if I wanted to go up to the Dollar General with her to get some bread. I agreed and picked myself up out of the dirt. As I walked to the van I brushed my black t-shirt off (which I knew was covered with hundreds of brown and white dog hairs.) We drove to the store and got out. As we walked inside, I spotted the cashier and instinctively clapped my hands over my pockets to see if I had any tracts on me. Gasp. Not only was I without my tracts, I didn’t even have my knife. Very rarely am I without my faithful pocketknife. I always absentmindedly unload my pockets when I come home, so I guessed that was why they were empty. Thankfully, Mama had a tract, so after we paid, we gave it to the cashier and left. God reminded me that I shouldn’t be so dependent on tracts that speak for me, and should be willing to “open my mouth boldly as I ought to speak” with or without tracts. I’m so grateful that the Lord teaches us even in everyday situations.

I so encourage you to listen to God’s voice today and let him teach you. He’s the best Teacher we’ll ever have.

And for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. Ephesians 6:19-20

A Fable

Shared in Anything Else

This is a project we did in school when we were learning about Aesop. (Pronounsed "Ee-sop." I have no idea why.  ) He was actually a real guy and lived in Greece. Below are some facts I wrote down that I didn't know about him:

Aesop was a Greek slave that, because of his talent for telling stories, was freed. He used animals to animate his tales, many of which we have today.  They are know as "Aesop's Fables."

And so, our assignment was to write a fable that taught a moral, like Aesop did. This is my fable:

                                    The Two Pine Trees

In a forest there once lived two pine trees. One was a tall, strong tree. The other was a small sapling. The large tree was always boasting to the small tree about being the biggest and strongest. Then one day two men came to the forest with axes. They began to cut down the big pine tree, and it fell with a crash. “This tree is so big it will be all we need,” said one man to the other. As they hauled it away, the small tree was glad that he had been so little.

Moral: Bigger is not always better

My sister did one about two dogs, in Spanish. You can view it on her blog by clicking HERE.

Growing birds...

Green and Blue Parrotlet Chicks

The little parrotlets have grown so much! So far it looks like there are three females and one male. These two little chicks in the picture are the oldest and they're both females. They can now chirp and are beginning to react to "step-up."

I still don't know which one I'll pick, they're all so cute!

When you walk though the fire, you shall not be burned...

When you pass through the waters; I will be with you,

One day I was trying out our water color set. I found that I really like it! This is one of the first ones I did. I'll try to post the other one later.

Sox

Shared in Anything Else

This is our 13 year old cat Sox. She is a very sweet cat and it seems like she is always purring. In this picture, we had forgotten to close the car door and Sox, who's always looking for a soft place to sleep, discovered the open door and made herself at home. she looked so comfortable that we had to take a picture, but before we could get the camera outside, Sox was halfway standing up. Oh well......

Some of the funny places we've found her are: 1) In the coil of our garden hose. (when she layed down, the coil was just as big as she was.) 2) On top of a stack of newspapers taller than she is, it looked so funny! 3) Perched precariously on the top beam of our fort. I know cats have great balance, but still, I was glad when she came down! 4) Once, when we parked our van in the garage, Sox climbed up the van and jumped onto the garage door. Very funny! 5) On top of our dog's "crate" that had a sheet draped over the back part. (I have no idea how that sheet got on there.)  =~) Sox has many more "sleeping spots," but I better wrap up now.

Socrates (as I call her) LOL

Pic of Our Dog

Shared in Anything Else

I thought I might post a picture of Lucky.

As you can see, she looks kinda dirty.  After we give her a bath  her white fur looks like it got bleached and we always re-discover that her "brown" fur (which you can't see in the picture) isn't really brown, it's reddish. Too bad she likes the dirt so much!..... she never stays clean.  That explains her looking dirty.   I may post some more pics of our pets later!

Hi! Welcome to my blog! Brief description... hmm.. well, I'm going to try to use this blog as a tool, to encourage others and inspire them to seek God for themselves, draw closer to Him and get on fire to tell the ones who need to hear! And also just some random thoughts. So, look around, and feel free to leave a question or comment! Mark 16:15 "And He said to them, "Go into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."
