Farm fresh delicious and cloth diaper questions....

Well we were able to go to the "farm fresh" store and purchase our first batch of FARM FRESH MILK.  It is delicious!!  It is pasturized...the only REAL difference is they give their cows NO HORMONES and feed them an all vegetarian diet.   So for a family making some baby steps...this is good!!!  We also bought some of their butter.  Tomorrow we will go back for a larger order.  I wasn't prepared (with cash) for the $2.00 glass bottle fee.  It makes sense, but I wasn' t prepared.

Well I am just about half way with this pregnancy and dh has some last minute $$ coming in from his previous job...and I was making a list of some things I'd like to do with the $$ and one of them was to get a nice "beginnning inventory" of cloth diapers.  Now...I do not sew, nor do I have a machine...so making them is not an option (at this pont)... so what do I need for beginners??   Also with traveling (we run errands about 1 day a week...and travel to grandparents about 1x a month) do I want to buy a few All In One's or maybe go disposable for ease...????

Here is what I am REALLY considering for everyday use....Frugal Fannies   I think for ease this will be a bit better than prefolds.   Dh is very leary of prefolds.....   But I was wondering about traveling and things... what do you do?   What do you use for every day use???

Any thoughts or wisdom out there????

Milk - Yes ~~ Diapers - No

I have absolutely NO advice on the diapers - as we used disposables AND we've been out of the diaper "business" for about 13 years! :-) Now, we're waiting on courtships, marriages and grandbabies! IN THAT ORDER! Ha!

But...we do get farm fresh milk and we LOVE it, too! In our area of Ohio (southwest), we have alot of Old Order German Baptists - they live like the Amish. And get our milk and brown eggs from them. It's wonderful, I don't get them any other place unless it's an emergency - like not having what I need NOW for a recipe or something. They also sell butter from their Jersey cows, but I usually make my own.

Pretty yummy!

I have been using cloth diapers for our last 3 children and traveling is easy. When I am out running errands I just pack several diapers, inserts and a couple covers in my diaper bag along with a plastic grocery bag or two. When I change diapers out like that I just put the dirty one in the plastic bag, tie it shut and bring it home to wash. I have also used big ziplock bags to transport them in as well. Both work fine. When traveling long distance (we visit family about 4 hours away often) I just pack a bag of diapers, inserts and covers and take my diaper pail. My diaper pail is just a clear tub with a locking lid. Easy to clean, disinfect and travel with. It is not a huge one. I have a few AIO's that I use periodically but those are mostly for DH and family who are watching baby to use. If you have any other questions just let me know. I am glad to help if I can.

advice and jealous

I am jealous because we don't have a place close to us where I can buy fresh milk :(
Diapers- I used cloth diapers and I am proud of you for planning to. I did not use prefolded, I used the big rectangles, folded them myself, used pins and plastic pants. Nothing fancy. Sometimes I would use two for absorbancy. I also would take plastic bags or ziplocs when going to town and wash when we got home. As for washing, I kept a bucket close to the washer, filled with water and some borax. I would just put all the used diapers in there, when full, I would dump the whole thing in the washer. I set it to rinse and spin, then washed normally, using a little more borax. For long trips, I agree with Rhen again. Good luck

We had a lot of luck using prefolds ans Super Whisper Wraps. Very inexpensive and fairly easy to use. We did not use diaper pins though insteadwe used snappis. I loved them! I recently started to make my own all in ones. They were so much easier for my husband to use and my second child hated getting a diaper change. There is a one size fits all pocket diaper out there but I didn't think the hook and loop was very strong. Your best bet is a variety. Some work better for night, other for day, and others for travel.
