Cooking Traditional Foods Menu Mailer

Are you new to whole and traditional foods or to "Nourishing Traditions"? Have you just gone gluten/dairy-free and don’t know what to eat?

The menu mailer covers 6 dinners (including side dishes) and one dessert every week.  It contains a full menu, shopping list, a preparation plan, and serving suggestions for each meal.  Tips and information are included in every mailer as well.

What makes the Cooking Traditional Foods menu mailer unique?  A preparation schedule is included with every menu mailer.  It reminds you when to thaw the meat, prep the crock-pot, make the stock or soak the grains.  Because lack of planning is a major hurdle in getting healthy meals on the table, this schedule helps you make sure everything is done.  It also contains blanks so you can write in your own reminders for breakfast, snacks and lunches.

Biblical Womanhood

Biblical Womanhood began in 2005 as a ministry to encourage and equip women and young women. Through our bookstore, articles, newsletter, and blog, we desire to promote femininity and build up women as they embrace their Biblical callings. In this humanistic, feministic culture, we want to be a breath of fresh air to women seeking after something greater than what the world has to offer - to glorify the Lord in all they do, say, and think!

Stocking Up for Emergencies

12:40, Tuesday, May 6, 2008 .. Posted in Preparedness .. 0 comments .. Link
Candy over at Keeping the Home has an excellent article up about stocking your pantry in times of food shortages. There's a lot of good information in the comments, so be sure and read them too :) Here's a comment I left...

Great post as usual Candy. I like the fact that you are thinking wisely and not just running out it a tizzy and buy up a bunch of stuff. I remember how crazy it got during Y2K and all the stuff going on with that. We need to think calmly and make a plan. I think it's a wise idea, period, to stock up on staple items. You never know when you may have to face a job loss, illness, or an unexpected expense where money gets really tight. I keep a 2 week stock of food on hand just for those purpose. I stock up on foods that can be kept for a long time. Beans and rice are good ones, but also things like canned tuna, chicken or other meats. When I see staples like onions, peppers, tomatoes or potatoes (and the like) on sell, I stock up and dry them or freeze them. I've got canning jars filled with all sorts of dried veggies, all ready to use at a moment's notice.

Another thing I do is keep 2 weeks worth of menus that just use dried and/or staple items. That way if I need to use those staples because I can't afford to buy food that week, I have recipes all ready that I can use. This makes it much easier for me. Whenever I see things on sale that are included in those recipes, I pick them up and stock up.

Nearly everyone can plant some veggies, even if you live in a small apartment. I just posted some ideas about that on my blog. We've lived in a tiny apartment, but we were still able to grow at least a few things. Every little bit helps! We' ve lived in everything from a tiny apartment to a tiny trailer, to our 3 bedroom home with 37 acres. No matter where we lived, we managed to grow some of what we eat. I also think it's really important to stock up on seeds to grow. We save seeds from what we grow, and so we hardly ever have to purchase seeds. We know that our seeds are organic/heirlooom and GMO free. So, we can insure that the food we grow is not genetically modified in anyway...just the good stuff that God planned for us to eat.

I really think stocking up is a good thing, no matter what the economy is doing. It's a wise thing to do.

I think this is an excellent topic for discussion. Food and gas prices are rising at an alarming pace, and I know that there are people out there that are hurting because of it. Tell me what you think! Are you stocking up "just in case"? If so, why and how?
