Nothing MuchBlessings! Well, nothing much has been happening here except for our delightful weather the last few days:) Spring has officially sprung here and I am excited to get the garden tilled by this weekend:) I have waited forever, it seems, to get my garden started. We have a long growing season here but I still always want to start it far earlier than advisable. I guess it's that cabin fever itch that hits in the middle of winter that does it. Never satisfied, I say:P Yoncalla Patch is still holding her babies hostage. Since we are not sure of her little romp, we are only guessing at the time. She's getting so big though, poor thing. I still worry as she's 9 and old for her first. (and last). I am just praying that her body is able and her emotional self is ready. She's our beloved pet and I just don't want to see anything happen to her. I'm sure she's probably just fine. I hear stories all the time now of bad things that happen in older dogs but I think those are rare occurances and I am trusting God to take care of things. In a way I wish we could keep one but we really shouldn't. I am firm on my decision as I have enough animals with the cat, goats, chickens and ducks. I want to be a good renter and not go overboard which is really easy to do on 7 acres:P We won't be keeping any of our baby goats either as it is not our desire to make our herd larger than absolutely necessary for our own needs. We didn't get into this so we could be overwhelmed by it all:) but that's for my frugal and wise living post:) I do need to get a few more chickens though as almost half of them have been eaten! Poor things. We have only 2 ducks left and I'm sad over that. I really miss those. Now that we have the pen built and the shelter finished, we aren't losing anymore so that's a good thing:) This week we will finish cleaning out the barn and get the old hay out of there and spread around with the planting stuffs and then we'll probably burn the rest. Or at least whatever I can't use for the nesting boxes in the henhouse. The chicken tractor is done and the littles are doing well with that. Those will be butchered in another month and then I can put some new chicks in there to raise up for layers. I'm so glad Brother Craig built that. It's portable and easy to move around from place to place:) It makes it much easier to free range the babies and get them raised up enough that the other chickens won't pick on them when we turn them out in the big pen:) Our landlord has a rider mower here but it has never worked so we have that put away safely and are using our own mower which we are used to and know all it's quirks. I feel better using ours anyway. It's nice that they have it available but I prefer to use what we already have and save that for the next tenant who might not have one:) No we aren't moving again...at least not yet:P I would love to stay put here for awhile. In fact, we would like to stay here until we find a place to buy. I don't want to keep moving around and we are praying that the owners are happy with long term renting:) There are still a lot of widow makers out in the forest in the back of the property that we are going to have to pull down. The children enjoy walking through the woods but it's far too dangerous at the moment. The wind kicks up something awful now and then and it's tearing up some of the trees. There are a lot of dead trees back there that are falling down in these winds and they need to be cleared away when they do so they don't hurt anyone or anything. Well, I need to be to my bed as it's getting awful late. I have to put on Brother Craigs breakfast so it's ready when he wakes up at 2:30am. He will be changing his shift to evenings in the next few weeks so we are looking forward to that:) It means having him home during the best part of the day:) He can sleep in during the time we are out doing animals and such. Then when he's awake before work we can spend time gardening, BBQing, talking, playing games or whatever else we come up with as a family:) I am looking forward to that:) Alright, I'm really going now. Have a very blessed rest of the week! God be with thee! Sister Lori { Last Page } { Page 34 of 230 } { Next Page } |
