What did I do?...

Blessings!

What did I do to deserve such blessings? What have I said to deserve such sweet music to fall upon my ears? What have I seen to deserve the beauty before me? I've believed!

It's nearly midnight and as I sit here listening to the soft rhythm of my husband breathing as he slumbers to my left, I reflect upon my day and ask myself such questions.

This morning I awoke to the sounds of the rooster just before dawn. His throaty call to awaken the quiet homestead from it's gentle slumber. Dreams fade slowly into the mist of memory as I lower my feet to the side of my bed, testing the coldness of the floorboards before setting my feet firmly down.

I patter quietly to the bathroom where I splash a bit of cold water on my face to help to shake the sleep from my mind. I gaze out the window and see the ducks beginning to make their way to the pool and steal a moment of forbidden pleasure before the humans sweep down to send them on their way to the lower realms of their domain.

I slowly make my way to the bottom of the stairs and tiptoe into the kitchen to start the coffee and warm the oven before taking a moment to watch the splendor of a morning waking up to the soft hues of pinks and golds as the sun rises just beyond the hills.

The wonderful aroma of coffee fills the air as the last of the water sputters through it's twists and turns and into the waiting pot where I will soon encourage it's steaming heat to shatter the iciness of the cups and produce the comforting feel of warmth as I embrace them to carry them to share in a quiet moment with my beloved husband.

Sharing this moment of hushed prayer and scripture with my dear husband is a sweet reminder of the blessings the Lord has poured over me just as the warmth of the coffee fills my insides with that radiant heat, taking the chill from my body.

As I watch my love begin to slip back into a quiet slumber I rise again to begin the tasks of the morning. Tapping upon doors to awake the gifts the Lord blessed us with as a testimony of our love and oneness. Hearing their sleepy voices confirming their intentions to join us this day, gives me such a feeling of joy and fulfillment.

The day breezed by with tasks accomplished as many hands make light work. The moments of togetherness reminding me that we are alive and refreshed by the Life Giving Waters of our Lord and Saviour each day as we face our responsibilities to each other. His hand in our every moment is evidence of a love we cannot possibly fathom, though we strive to give it to others as He gives it to us.

The day flowed into night like a gentle breath as our tasks were completed and we came together in thankful prayer for our accomplishments of the day. Relieved from the burdens of responsibility of our little homestead. Taking joy in our sharing of sustenance and knowing that soon we will slip into the slumber of angels once again.

As I listen to the sounds of our home, quiet and peaceful, I know that the hearts and souls of the family that live in this earthly dwelling, are filled with the love and saving grace of our Heavenly Father. Deep within I feel a sense of peace that cannot be acquired by any earthly way. The sense of peace I possess is the gentle spirit of a Loving Father. The peace that only He can give.

Thank you Lord God, Creator of all, the Giver of perfect blessings. Thank you!

God be with all of thee as you reflect on your reasons for being thankful this coming holiday. May He fill you with His peace and Tender Mercies.

Very poetic, just lovely.

You drew a beautiful scene with your words. I love to rise early but have not been doing so since my illness. It is a wonderful sight to see the sunrise and enjoy the sounds of the early morning.

When I read words about the early morning I am reminded of what I am missing ,by sleeping in. Thank you, you have encouraged me to roll out of bed a little earlier tomorrow, no matter how bad I feel.
