An odd moment to myself:)

Blessings Brothers and Sisters in His Precious Name!

   I have a rare moment to myself this morning so I thought I would come and ramble a moment.

   We have a lot of things going on here this week and I am daily praying for the strength and endurance to accomplish it all. I have another garden area to till which I am hoping to get done today. The first one just won't carry all that I need to grow. But that's okay, it's not the first time and it won't be the last time that I have more than one garden going. That and a lot of container gardening makes for a pretty yard:) I'm not much with flowers so vegetables are as close as I get to making things colorful. My daughter, on the other hand, tends to the flowers. She says "mom, you don't have a black thumb...you just love your flowers to DEATH":P She's right, I think I tend to overdo when it comes to their care and when I try to not care so much I forget about them so they die no matter which way I go:) I'm blessed she is with us:)

   We found one of our Nigerian Dwarfs with what seemed like a cyst yesterday on her udder. We thought perhaps mastitis so we did the hot compresses on her last night to try to draw it to the surface. This morning it had burst! Now tomorrow the vet will be taking a sample of it to have checked for CL. We only just brought her home from her previous owner a few days ago. When I first noticed it I thought it might be just a callus where the baby had been nursing. But then it was larger and hard last night so I figured better safe than sorry. She is now in her own holding pen until the vet does the tests and we get results.

   We did phone the previous owners who have asked to foot the bill for this (the Lord blesses) as they need to know if it IS CL. If it IS then it means that they may well have a pandemic on their farm. Not good. It would mean culling a large quantity of their goats. If she does test positive then she will need to be culled immediately. The girls are out disinfecting the pen and feeders and milkingstands right now.

   We've never had trouble with raising goats before. In fact, we have raised goats for many years and had never even HEARD of all this stuff before. Our goats had always been healthy and rarely ever had to deal with vets at all! I almost wish we had kept our herd and just raised them these past 15 years (sigh). In any case, we want our farm to be as disease free as possible. We sell our animals and their byproducts to the public and so it's quite important that we keep our farm very clean.

   Speaking of byproducts:)...Delta Dawn (our Muskovey) is going to be a mother!:) We had thought she was already setting a week ago but as it turns out they just weren't finished filling the nest. She now has 27 eggs (not all hers) and she has been on them for the last three days now. We are expecting our first homegrown little ones around the 12th of June:) 

   So far this morning we have managed to wash 4 tubs of laundry, mop floors in kitchen and sewingroom, wash windows throughout the house, sweep frontroom and bedrooms, water plants, bake cookies and muffins, and have 5 loaves of bread rising for baking soon:)

   The laundry isn't as overwhelming as it sounds:) You see, we hand scrub the clothes. Our "tub" is a galvanized washtub. A "tub of laundry" usually consists of about 10 pair pants or 8 dresses or 10-12 towels/washclothes/handtowels/dishtowels etc. Our "tubs" aren't as large as when you fill a washing machine:) Our washboard gets a real workout once a week. It's one of our favorite summertime activities:) We resort to the indoor washer for winter.

   We will be grinding more flour later as we need to get some other baking done for the week. I haven't made the rolls yet and we still want to make some pies and maybe a cake. And we need to make more pasta either today or tomorrow. We'll see how much of the baking gets done today.

   Well, hopefully I'll get some time tonight to write some more. I pray that each of you finds peace in the Lords will today:)

What time did you get all that done by - I was rather stunned when I read how much you have achieved by whatever time of the morning.

And you don't have a washing machine either - oh my - I was kind of a little overawed when I read your post.

Our days are rather busy at times. I am blessed to have two daughters and a son still at home that help me with many tasks each day.
Our days begin very early and without television, video games, newspapers, radio, magazines and dozens of other types of distractions that can plague some homes, we are able to accomplish a lot with time to spare for quiet family time as well:)
