The Harvest

   Blessings!

As life would have it, we cannot always guarantee a good harvest. In fact we cannot guarantee a harvest at all. But I know someone who can guarantee all that and more.:)

Our Heavenly Father guarantees us that He will never leave nor forsake us. He says He loves us with an Agape love. A love that passes all understanding.

I often wonder if I possess that same love for my husband, my children, friends, family, strangers? Through much scripture study I have found that I am not capable of an Agape love because my humanness won't allow me to. Because of my basic sinful nature that I have no control of, I cannot have a love that trascends all creation. Only my Father in Heaven can have that. And how blessed I feel that He loves me in that way. It assures me deep in my heart that I stand a chance of joining Him beyond this life one day.

Thank You Lord for sending Your Son to die for me that I might one day see Heaven. That I may, one day, be with my loved ones who have gone on before me. That I may, one day, shed the bonds of this life for the freedom of Heaven.

Here at our farmstead we grow many things for our own needs as well as for a supplemental income. The Lord has provided us with the ability and the means to do this so as to make us rely less on society for our needs and more on His provision and Tender Mercies.

Our sunflowers are part of a good crop we grow to sell at market. They are easy to maintain, need little attention and are fun to harvest.

The heads are harvested and placed on our drying racks that keep the air circulating through them so they dry faster and more thoroughly with very little rot or waste.

Our drying racks are actually trundles that we used under the childrens beds when we had all the children still living at home. They are perfect for taking on the weight of the heads and allow 4 inches beneath them so the air get get under them.

This is also convenient so as to roll them where the sun is the best and then roll them back to cover if the weather changes.

We are so very thankful for His provision. He has made it so we can supplement our income well enough that we can put away a bit of money as we save for the land the Lord has prepared for us.

   Have a very blessed day!

God be with thee!

Sister Lori

Oh I love this post and the pictures. I have a question tho, I tryed to grow sunflowers once but they fell over from their own weight. How do you keep that from happening with your flowers? Is it a special type of flower that your using? Oh I am so interested, LOL.

Blessings!
We plant our sunflowers like we plant corn. They are planted close together and several rows. It keeps them from getting blown over or weighting themselves down. We grow the mammoth type.
If you aren't planting them in a crop style then you need to plant them along a fence or build a guide with poles on either endand then stretch a wire in front and behind the flower stalks from one post to the other. Make sure the poles are high enough and the wire is high enough to catch the stalks nearer to the top.
Hope this helps.
God be with you!

Good to see you again Sister Lori!!! You have been in my thoughts for quite some time. I am so glad to see you here! I have been wondering if you had made your move to our state? How is Brother Craig's eyes? And Mary Ann? I hope everyone in your family is doing well.
Blessings,

What Your Thanksgiving Meal Says About You
When it comes to the holidays, you follow and love the big traditions. You look forward to them every year.

You see the holidays as a time to be close to loved ones. It's a good time to reconnect and make memories.

You like the aspects of the holiday that remind you of your childhood - opening presents, treats, and old favorite foods.

You consider yourself to be a bit of a purist, and you're proud of it.

You tend to spend your holidays sharing and pitching in. You'll do whatever needs to be done.
