The ol' homestead

Making Christmas stockings (pictures)

Well, here on the homestead it is nice and chilly and WINDY! this a.m. I have a trip planned to the next town over to visit my ma and pa today. Mom loves fresh wheat bread so I got up early to mill and I have 2 loaves rising for her right now. I keep telling her she is going to have to get a grain mill because once you have fresh bread, there is no going back!

I have a few pictures of our project we have been working on. My friend Cathy and I have been working on those stockings that I mentioned before. This is Cathy working on one and here are some of the bottoms of the boot.We are using a variety of fabrics -each suited to the person it is for. The theses are really great!  I am doing a police theme for one of my sons, puppies for one of my daughters, piano keys for another son, Cherries for another, etc.I only have eight to make -Cathy has 14 to do. She has some really cute fabrics and four of her hunting guys want camo ones! We just have the bottoms of the stockings done. We still have the embroidered names on tops to go, but I thought I would post pictures in progress.

Here is Cathy...

It is hard to get some good pictures because there are so many

we have but maybe you can get an idea of how they will look.

Anyway, I will post some more pictures when we get the tops on. We did get one totally finished and fell in love with it. They are just the perfect size for goodies too. Cathy has one stocking that was made for one of her grown boys that was made many years ago by a friend and she has kept it all these years and wanted to make one each for her much larger family now. The original is awesome and is 24 years old! We hope the ones we are making now will last too -when we are gone from this earth, we hope our children and our childrens children will say, "mom ( or grandma) sewed this with love for me!" And isn't that what it is all about anyway?!

Have a blessed day!

My husband's stocking, that we still hang every year, was made colse to thirty years ago. They truly are an heirloom gift and I know your families will enjoy them for a long time!

Happy sewing!

Patti
