The ol' homestead

For the love of roasted green chilies

Welll, here I am this morning getting this blog up, it's pretty sad when your daughter says, "when you going to put a new blog up so I can see whats new round here".

Our trip to the arts/crafts fair was really great. I always look forward to this time.... the artsy items, the clothes, the people, the kettle corn, the cheesecake on a stick, the sweet potato, the corn on the cob, the .... Do you see where this is going? Yes. Lots of food, and I think I had more than my share. And Sunshine had some really yummy meals too, albeit, not nearly as waist thickening as that fair food, (THANK YOU SUNSHINE!) And so it was back to my stricter diet regimen this week, and back to salad.

This is Sunshine (and her great smile) munching down on some good chow.

Hows that cherry cobbler there, Frontier Man???

Anyway, we had a great time, aside from two important sad events.

1. Death in the family. Sunshine and Frontier Mans' daddy's brother-in-law passed away. They were quite close and we were so sadened by this news.

2. Chelsea got her nose pierced. I cannot speak of this one, as I am still in denial.

I want to share with you a sneak peek of the project I am working on for Grand-doll for Christmas. It is a basket of goodies. Specifically crochet veggies/fruits. These are so cute and fun. I still have 10 or so more to make but the group is getting fuller. Can you spot your fav?

My friend Cathy came by last week and we were talking chili's. As in green chiles. Her husband is from New Mexico where he grew up eating these roasted chilies on just about everything. The way they grow them and roast them is very interesting and I did not know that they come in different hotnesses in the same variety. Anyway, they brought Frontier Man a sample jar of it and he really liked it. They also gave me a few bags of some mild chilies that have been roasted and froze and I plan to put them in some salsa very soon. These chilies are from Hatch New Mexico and the people there are really serious about their peppers. I will share with you the awesome salsa recipe with you soon, as it is the best!

Little Miss is still working on the solar system and doing her experiments. This week she made a volcano that erupted. Science is fast becoming her favorite subject I think and who can blame her, aren't all those fun experiments just the coolest?!

This month my dad declared that he is hanging up his racing jacket and will no longer compete. He feels that it is too much and it is taking a toll on him now.

This is him at his last race, Big Miss was able to capture this day for him on film and will make him a memory book. It was a sad day, but he has enjoyed racing for a long time and will still go to watch.

Cooler weather has moved into Oklahoma and now Frontier Man is driving the car to work instead of his bike, but I feel pretty sure that if ever a nice day is to arise he will take complete advantage of it.

I hope you all have a blessed week-end!

I lvoe the veggies... they'll last a lot longer than the plastic ones at the store. Great idea.

Warmly, ~Melissa
