Headcoverings
Posted in On my heart
|
I have a topic that I would like to get some feedback about. My husband and I were talking tonight about the passage in I Corinthians where it talks about the woman covering her head during worship and prayer. I don't cover my head nor does anyone in my home church. But I have been to churches where their are a couple of women that do cover their heads. It plainly states that a woman shows submission to Christ and to man when she has a head covering on.I just wanted to get some feedback on what other church bodies do concerning this and what you think? I hope everyone has a great day and don't forget...Make Memories!
Love, Tina

Wow, I was just reading about Covering tonight (on a Catholic website) as it's been something that I feel I should learn more about.

I have been wondering about this issue, too. I am going to have to do some more research on it. It isn't something that was ever discussed in our church or family. I am now learning more about dressing modestly and I have questions about the head coverings, too.

Hello, a friend and mine were just talking on this very subject. Helen Leibee gives a great talk on this and other matters in Secrets for a Godly Woman... Here is the link, http://www.charityministries.org/tapeministry/tapelist.cfm?Where=speaker&value=Helen%20Leibeeall
her stuff is very encouraging.
And if you like to listen to things and have kids, Ann Brubaker does a great talk as well called Keeping The Hearts Of Your Children, it can be found at that site above, just look under Messages by Speaker.
We don't cover either, but it is something I'm learning more about....we have a couple of ladies in our church that do.

Monday, March 26, 2007 - We Weren't Raised Mennonite!

There - I have confessed it! :-)
My family was not raised Mennonite. We "drifted" church to church, once my husband and I began reading the Word of God. The churches just didn't fit what we were learning was right. They seemed to sit on "gray" areas... whereas the Bible was clear on the issues of "right" and "wrong".
First, we began dressing modestly and switched to dresses. Then, we were convicted by the things that simply CAME to us on television (unexpectedly) and we felt led to get rid of the televisions. There were other changes, too. Like beginning to practice headcovering and doing regular, daily, without-fail family devotions...
Our extended families thought us mad. They treated us roughly. It was a difficult time.
On the matter of the covering... the issue kept coming back to me through Bible studies, ladies I would meet... just when I would let it "slip"... God would bring the topic back to me. I finally read on it, and felt convicted. I came to my husband about it. He told me if I felt like this was something I should be doing... I must do it.
But he was not completely convinced.
One day, I put a couple sermon tapes into his lunch box that he took to work. He came home absolutely convinced, and began seeking more information and learning on his own.
Ironically, this is just when my own strength was faltering. I wasn't so sure, any longer. It was hard to look so "different". :-)
One day, we were leaving to run an errand. My husband scolded me (I had come out to the van without my covering! I just did NOT feel like wearing it any longer!) and told me to go back inside and put it on. :-)
Having my husband's support has made all the difference. But, then, this is how it's been with many of our life issues as a married couple. I always, always feel empty unless I have his encouragement, validation, prayers and understanding. Other than God, he is the one I am closest to on earth.
You might be interested in looking at my blog. I post from a Mennonite perspective (practicing headcovering being one such addressed issue), and earlier this afternoon I posted something related. Normally, though, my posts center on mothering/homeschooling/marriage/homemaking. That's why I thought it was so odd that I found your post, here, accidentally. I think the Lord may have led me to click on your "link" while I waited for my bath! :-)
God bless you and keep you as you actively seek Him!
Carrie
