Question about homemade yogurt

I made my first batch of homemade yogurt and put it in the fridge to cool.  When I tasted it, I have to say, I was a tad bit disappointed.  It tasted more sour than I imagined it to taste.  I know that homemade yogurt taste different from store bought, but my question is; Is it normally more sour or did something go wrong? 

If you make yogurt, I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions that you may offer.

I am new at this too....

my homemade was not sour enough. and it has a funny taste. I dunno.... still working it, I guess.

I cannot eat dairy -but made my kids homemade yogurt as they love yogurt - they would not eat it - they said it was gross.... so - it'll just have to be an occasional treat..

I do know that plain yogurt isn't near as sweet as flavored store bought...

Homemade yogurt has not sugar or chemicals in it. Mine always tastes a bit sour, but I add blueberry sauce or rasberry sauce to it and my kids love it. Also, I make vanilla yogurt which tastes better than store bought. You add the sugar and vanilla before you culture it. Perhaps these ideas will work for you. Don't give up on the homemade, it's much better and a bit cheaper than the store bought.
