If you use a nifty yarn, like a chunky or knobby type, and very large needles, the stitches don't look boring at all. It's kind of lacy and fun.

There are also a lot of fringe type yarns that could be interesting, OR you could try knitting two yarns at once for fun (green and black, or red and white).

i wish i could knit or crochet...i can make a chain stitch but when i have to turn i get it lopsided....lol

I couldnt knit to save my life but you sound like you have a lot of fun preparing new things for your baby. The only crafty thing I do is scrap booking. I have a lovely sister also who is my best friend. Looking forward to hearing about what you make her.
