Monday, September 4, 2006 - Great News! |
It didn't take as long as I thought it might to find our miniature
jersey cow. We bought one and just got "Ruby" home Saturday evening.
She is 7 months old, and is a little bit larger than we had
anticipated. We think that she will be more of a "mid-sized miniature"
than a true miniature. This is our first cow ever, and we are excited
to have her. The trip to pick up Ruby will definitely go down in the
annals of family history (200 miles each way in a 37-year-old truck). I
won't go into details here, but I'll just say that we are glad to be
home. This picture was taken by Ruby's original owner just a few days
after she was born. Aren't newborn jerseys the most beautiful animals?
Check out these eyelashes.
School starts tomorrow, and oh boy am I not ready. Time to sort out books and clear off the big desk and the tables!
Blessings!
Amey

Hey Amey!
How is the cow doing? I would so love to get a milk cow. I have read of all the health benefits of raw milk, and figure it can't really be that hard to have your own cow, other than the daily chores, of course!
We have been making the transition to more pure food and traditional preparation methods over the last few years, and judging from your homeschool blog, you all have been, too! Would love to have more dialog with you on these things!
Anyway, it is a challenge incorporating school work with homestead living and so many projects. But then again, it encourages discipline and focus and perhaps simplification, which we definitely need. Hope things are well at your place!
Chris

Hi there! I came across your blog in a search engine this morning. I really like the stuff you have to say. We have a lot in common. I have a 7 yr old, 5 yr old, and 10 mos old, and I homeschool. We also try to eat as healthy as possible - organic fruits and veggies, no processed stuff, etc. I'm very new to this blogging thing, so not sure how it all works. I hope to read more of your stuff. Feel free to email me at joybells1028@yahoo.com.
