Can Gifts Be a Snare?
For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 3:14
A story is told of a Greek who had spent many years working in a foreign country. Before he returned home, he used all his fortune to purchase a diamond. He was traveling home by ship to spend his last years with his family. After some time of rest in his room, he decided to go up on deck to see what was happening. He discovered interesting games taking place. He felt he could also put on a show. Quickly he decided to get his diamond. He started throwing this gem up into the air. He was a talented juggler, and he would catch the diamond just before it hit the deck. The onlookers cheered. He did this several times and successfully had it land into his hands. But the game ended poorly. For some unknown reason, the sea waves drew the ship slightly off course. He vainly struggled to catch the diamond, but down into the sea it disappeared. What a sorrowful man he was!
What caused this man to act this way? Today’s Scripture passage tells of a mortal standing in the place meant for God alone, and there is an inner urge in each of us to impress others. Thoughts and actions arising from self glorify the creature rather than the Creator. Often I have caught myself in this kind of snare: trying to show the best of myself in the way I say or do things. Only God deserves honor and glory for what I am. I have since surrendered to God all He has given to me. I have asked Jesus’ blood to cleanse me of this impurity. I have fully made up my mind not to allow any gift to honor myself but God alone.

She said there was a goat at their school that day. So when I got home from work, I said, "Emily, I heard there was a goat at your school today." Normally she would have just nodded, but she said, "Yeah. It pooped. There was a blueberry in its poop. It ATE its own poop!" I talked to one of the moms and she said that the poop LOOKED like little berries, but yes, it did eat the poop... Whatever floats your boat i guess...10:38 PM - Friday, October 10, 2008 - comments {1}A New Homestead BloggerMy daughter is a homestead blogger! Make her day by checking out her site. I called him this AM when I got up for work, and all was well. He had a partner with him, but he said that he (DH) drove on the way home. I kind of figured he would. He drives on 98% of our trips anywhere. He's a good driver, and besides, I tend to sleep whenever I am in the car )passenger side)! LOL! We finally have Amelia set and ready for work. She starts tomorrow! Last night, Amelia slept with me. She asked if she could, and who am I to say "No" to my 15 year old? All too soon, I won't have her and she'll be grown with a family of her own.... So, my baby girl slept with me last night. I woke up about 1:30a to do what I always do in the middle of the night, and I saw the upstairs light still on, and 2 children (11 year odl son and 14 year old daughter) up there giggling and carrying on.... so I told them to turn the lights out, and of course, when I got back to bed, I still hear my very disobedient young man still carrying on. But 4:00 am comes way too early for me anyway, and if I would have gotten back up, I would have been awake all night. THIS TIME, I let it go, cause I KNEW he would get tangled in his little snare before the day was out... and he did. He asked the same question of both DH and I 3 times today and got the same answer... he wanted to go out front to play. Now mind you, he's grounded, but we have been allowing him a bit more freedom these days due to good behavior. But after asking 3 times if he could go out front, and being told 3 times, "No, you cannot." DH came in the house to talk to me about his trip, and within 2 minutes..... Our son had snuck outside and down the road!!!!!!!!!! Because he said, "I wanted to walk...." Can we say.... "Grounding again, with a more strict regimen this time?" *SIGH* What are we gonna do with him? Any suggestions? Anyone? ~Blessings~ 08:12 - Friday, October 10, 2008 - comments {1} - post commentThe Homestead Act of 1862http://lcweb2.loc.gov/ammem/today/may20.html- How blessed these people were. They were probably the hardest workers America has ever seen. Without them, the land would not have been settled. A true testament to the bravery and strength of early settlers. 07:51 - Friday, October 10, 2008 - comments {1} - post commentSelling Used BooksBoy, do I ever need some help. We are moving to Alaska. That's the good news. My New York home is overrun with books. That's the problem. I have decided to list them on my website http://candyfoote.com/ That could take me a while!!! Well, I have managed to put a few of them on it. It seems to take quite a bit of time. I have included shipping and handling in the listed prices. Not one item is more than $5.00. Please, please, please check it out! If you don't see something you are interested in, then check back another day. It will take me quite awhile to list all of these books. I really can't take all of these books to Alaska with me. Thanks, Candy 07:25 - Friday, October 10, 2008 - comments {0} - post comment***Vegetarian Soup Recipe ***
Melt the butter in a stock pot over medium head and add the onion. Saute for about 5 minutes and then add the herbs, salt, bay leaves and rice. Saute for 2 minutes.
Add the tomatoes and water and bring to a boil. Lower the heat to a simmer and simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
After 20 minutes add the cauliflower and cook until just tender, about 5 minutes.
Add the beans and the garlic and continue cooking for about 5-8 minutes or until the cauliflower is tender and the garlic has lost its rawness.
06:46 - Friday, October 10, 2008 - comments {0} - post commentThe Answer to our Financial WoesThe "financial" woes of our nation are on the hearts and minds of many in our nation right now. I am not surpised in any way by the economic crisis we face. What did Americans think would happen when it has lived on a steady diet of debt and allowed our government for decades to get deeper and deeper into national debt? It does not take a rocket scientist to understand that our nation's economic crisis is due to poor financial management. We can't point a finger at our nation and it's leaders without taking a good look at our own lives. Americans are addicted to debt. YES, I say addicted. Pretty strong words, ya think? Americans want everything and they want it right now. They want their government programs and don't realize that everything comes with a price tag. They want their new cars, new homes and fancy electronic gadgets and don't think twice about putting down plastic to pay for it. Then there is the concern over the upcoming election. Most of my loved ones and friends are very concerned about things. They are concered about the moral and social demise of our nation. They are concerned and rightfully so. So now what? I was talking the other day to a good friend. She was expressing her family's reponse to our economic woes....... there was concern in her voice...... she was worried...... her response is to stockpile food and get a gun. Now I want to say that I think it's great to have a full pantry, anytime of year and under any enconomic state we may find ourselves in. But, I do not believe our trust should be in what "we are doing" or "what we can do" or what our "government" plans to do or will do. I believe , whole heartedly that our trust is to be in the Lord. The Word of God tells us that the Lord watches over the sparrow and even the lilly of the field is dressed beautifully! When times get tough, we need to earnestly place our trust in the ONLY safe harbor of security --- the Lord! " Trust in the Lord with all your heart , and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths." ~~ Proverbs 3: 5 & 6 Too many Americans have forgotten this proverb. Many have invested heavily in the stock market. My husband was a broker for a few years. He could tell stories about what goes on in the stock market. It's really just a more polished way of gambling. I am sorry if that offends some of you. Many are seeing their retirement funds disintegrate before their very eyes. In the news the past few days there have been reports of some committing suicide because of their financial woes. What is happening here? Friends, let us not dispair! Let us not put our trust in our stocks, our savings account, our food storage or even our guns! May I gently encourage you to place your trust in the ONLY SAFE SECURITY we have -- and that is the Lord God! " It is the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is His faithfulness." ~~ Lamentations 3: 22 & 23 Great is His faithfulness! He will not fail us !! Let us not turn to "man made" answers to our problems. Let us seek His face, humble ourselves and He has promised us that He will heal our land. My prayer is that all of us will seek His face, seek a closer walk with Him ..... and trust, trust, trust that He will provide, protect and continue to shield us! ~ gloria ~
