my daughters wedding

you can read about it at http://www.faithlovehonor.com/ click on the tab at the top that says “the Wedding”
Southern Fried Catfish
catfish — eggs- beaten — cornmeal mix (cornmeal and flour) — Tony Chacheres creole seasoning
hot vegtable oil in skillet or deep fryer
mix some of the seasoning in a plate of cornmeal mix, dip catfish pieces in egg then in cormeal mix, then fry till crispy

what egg and mix you have left can be all stirred up together and dropped by spoonfuls into the hot oil to make hushpuppies
Hannah’s correction- (she cooks better than me) put some of the seasoning in the egg mixture also
holiday eatin
Well hubby thinks it is illegal to eat anything other than hamburgers, hot dogs, and homemade potato salad on any kind of American holiday. So guess what we are eating today? After we put up hundreds of square bales of hay. You guessed it, hamburgers, hot dogs (sausages really) and homemade potato salad, along with Georgia’s famous homemade ice cream made with our farm fresh milk. But our dear neighbor called yesterday as he often does from his boat on the Tennessee River, (praise the Lord for country folks with cell phones!) telling us to stop by later. This guy knows how to fish. He brought home 260 pounds of catfish. And shared more than half with us. There are over 30 fish and they are 2 feet long. Most of them we cleaned and put in the freezer.
I was going to share another gross science lesson with you since some of the fish were full of eggs but my camera ran out of battery power so that will have to wait till next time. But for now, yes today we are eating burgers but can you guess what we are eating tomorrow? Southern fried catfish. Mmmmm.
Arabian Horses
Well we are off to check on another great find. This was not through freecycle but actually through the website “swap n shop” of a local radio station. I was checking on something for someone else when I saw an ad for 2 Arabian horses. My family will convince you that the Arabian is God’s original horse, and obviously their very favorite. Well the ad went on saying great things but then when I got to the end I became everyone’s hero as I read out loud, “asking such and such OR WILL TRADE FOR PONIES!!!” Well ponies I got, lots of them! These very kind folks came by yesterday and are of course in love with my ponies, I mean who wouldn’t be, they are adorable. So we are going to look at these Arabians, I will take my camera and report back later.
when I get a front spot in the parking lot at Walmart I always exclaim, “God loves me!” we’ll see if my youngins are saying the same today, I have a feeling they will be
uuugghh coyotes
I got no sleep again last night. The coyotes are coming closer than ever. our dear Great Pyreneese dogs are working overtime. They sleep in the pasture and guard the horses. we still have more foals coming so when I hear howling I get concerned. Last night I could tell they were right at the fence, the fence between the house and the pasture, the dogs ran them off pretty fast but we can't figure out why they keep coming back.. We have plenty of neighbors not far off that don't have dogs guarding their livestock, so why do they keep coming here only to get beat up?

new things
We have another new addition. While April was gone on her honeymoon her Tennessee Walker mare had her baby. We were really blessed to see hem right fter he was born. She had been showing signs all day, but they usually try to hide out and birth in private. Not this one, and she has been very sweet about sharing him with us. We don’t go with the train of thought of trying to get the baby to take to us, but we rather want it to bond with it’s mother. We have seen a first time mare reject it’s foal before and it is not a pretty site. We would rather not mess with God’s plan. This momma is doing a great job. She is a soft goldren Palamino color, the baby looks like he will be a cremello, he has blue eyes. Getting a cremello baby is like finding a four leaf clover in your bouquet, it is not common but very sought after. And since we own both of the parents it is a happy day here.

movies, the good and the bad of it
Thought I would share a couple movie reviews with you. We don’t have TV and usually don’t even watch dvds this time of year, usually too busy with outside stuff, But the weather this week has been dreary and we have all been resting and trying to catch up. So we watched two movies this week. Both had the “family approved” logo. The first was “Country Remedy”, it was AWEFUL! Had all kinds of supernatural power witchcraft references and I did not appreciate that. Avoid it. It also had some sort of pocketwatch looking item that was supposed to be a compass passed down from a grandfather. Smelled fishy to me, very fishy, and we did turn it off.
The second was a keeper. It was called ‘Thicker Than Water” and starred Melissa Gilbert among others. Of course it was about faith and family and horses. Other than two kissing scenes (which we fast-forwarded) it was very clean and up to our high standards, no language, even minor. I would recommend this one but keep the remote handy for the kissing scenes near the end, probably no big deal to most but not acceptable viewing here.
making ends meet?
A quote from Herbert Hoover, “about the time you finally figure out how to make the ends meet, somebody moves the ends”.
Doesn’t that just about sum it up? Now I remember what I was doing before I started daydreamin. Trying to escape the reality of trying to make ends meet. How is everyone else doing this? I mean not only has the cost of everything more than doubled in some cases but our income has actually dropped. We didn’t mind working some overtime on top of the full time ministry time we already put in to cover the costs for the wedding, but you can only push so far. And I can really feel the effects of overdoing it. Everybody here was really dragging all week. Tired, stomach stuff with one child, weird allergic skin rash with another, absolute exaustion on others. All stress related. At least the wedding was a diversion. How can we possibly do what the Lord has called us to and pay the bills at the same time? My flesh wants a regular paycheck, a salary. But He says “trust me”. That is what faith is all about.
done
ok, no more snow, new header and about 10 new articles,
everybody happy?
changes comin!
first I am going to change the snow to rain, then I am going to change the header picture, and then I am going to add posts from my series, "life in the country". Are ya ready?
dogs on duty

we have two kinds of dogs, we have 1 Doberman who guards the house and would gladly give her life for us, and then we have 3 of these Great Pyreneese that guard the livestock. They were bred to do their job and instinctively know what they are guarding and where the property lines are. Did you notice one watching by in the picture with Sunshine and her foal? These dogs are wonderful with children but absolutely vicious against predators. We have heard them fend off a whole pack of coyotes.
instant gardening
start with a good fenced garden spot

remove horse

find a good guy with a Ford tractor (aka hubby)

go to co-op and buy plants because you have been too busy planning a wedding to start seeds

point nice tractor guy towards the garden spot and say “pretty please”

go later and tell him “well done and thank you”

put those nice plants in the ground with the help of several children you have birthed for just that reason

pray for rain!
don’t forget the Revolution Money Exchange offer ends Thursday!
Sunshine's surprise
This is what happened after the storm. We named him “Lightning Bug”. Stay tuned for the gross science lesson.

stormy surprises
We had an extremely stormy night last night. In more ways than one. There was a tornado watch, severe thunderstorms, lots of thunder, rain and lightning. The kind of thunder that rolls and lasts for minutes not seconds. The kind of lightning that lights up the whole house. But not only the storm was causing commotion. We could once again here our dogs seriously chasing off coyotes and there was a very annoying owl hooting away. What a night! But as often happens in the springtime in the country we had a wonderful surprise! I’ll tell you more in a bit……and hopefully I’ll get the pictures on. And I will probably elaborate and build a whole nother gross science lesson around it. Any guesses?
not an outhouse, an out-BUILDING

for you non country folks this is called an outbuilding, does this have character or what?
what is the difference between an outhouse and an outbuilding? they hold different stuff
scattered squirrel feeling
Ever have one of those days where you feel more scattered than a squirrel that just dropped all of his acorns from the tallest branch just as a snowstorm approaches? Well that is how my day started, at 4 AM. We had an extremely unpleasant task to be accomplished today. We have several ponies, nearly all of them dear fruitful Sunshine’s offspring, and another young horse that needed to be gelded. For you city folks that means castrated. YUCK. You see horses are herd animals and usually there is one, yes ONE stallion to the herd, but we have had, 11, yes ELEVEN up until this morning. So everyone old enough without reg papers (papers = breeding value) was castrated. Sorry sorry day for those boys. I don’t know why it bothers me so much, we have an Amish neighbor who does it for next to nothing and is perfectly humane. And there will be lots less hormones to deal with around here now. And the ponies who were allready well behaved and trained will now be safe for anyone’s child, and can be sold for top dollar. You see a stallion has one God given purose in life, to procreate. So even the most well behaved stallion has the possible potential to forget his manners sometimes and become unpredictible. So gelding takes care of that. Not everyone’s children are as rough and ready as mine.

Thankfuly Jim and two of our tough cowgirl daughters loaded them up and took them off, and just now called to say everyone equine is a little insulted but none the worse for wear and on their way home. Glad that is over, messin with God’s plan of creation bothers me. But He did give us dominion over the animals to use for our purposes so I know it isn’t wrong, just uncomfortable.
ya think she is due soon?

how is this for “due”
