Which Came First? The chicken or the European? This is a neat article on Yahoo! that tells about an archaelogical dig in Chile that has unearthed chicken bones that precede European settlement of the Americas. The Araucana chicken is apparently very close in DNA structure to Polynesian chickens and nowhere near the DNA structure of chickens that were introduced by European settlers. Isn't that cool? That scientists can isolate the DNA structure of a chicken I have in my backyard and tell me where in the world it orginated? I think I'll go outside right now and speak a little teriyaki to my Araucanas......hmm....teriyaki chicken. No wonder they go so well together.......
