The Brewer Family

• 2006-Feb-20 - keeping kids busy....

does anyone else out there find themselves trying to keep their kids busy?? I never used to worry about it but with the extreme cold weather and not wanting to use the TV as a babysitter I have been trying to find stuff to do  with them........ Today I think we are gonna go to the $1 theater and see Chicken Little......... the girls have also been interested in making yarn dolls and braided necklaces, so I am sure that will be on the agenda as well today, I need to find a super easy bread recipe to try and make with the girls too............

hhhmmmmm well off to search the web for some bread recipes for the girls and I to try!

MY kids don't get bored ... one is sleeping in the corner, one is sleeping behind my chair (snicker, snicker!!) ...

Seriously, when my 'real' girls were little, bored was never an issue .. I used to say "smart kids never get bored" and also "if you're bored, I'll FIND you something to do!"

But finding crafts is the best way ... boys like working with fiber, too ... and yarn dolls are fun to make and play with. Wood working skills are nice to teach, too, to both boys and girls.

Good luck with your crafts.

We bought a playdoh kit. It has about 4 colors in it and then it had like cookie cutter thingys in it, with pasta squishers and rollers. It was on sale at Target for under $4.00. Then we bought another 4 playdohs for $1.50. Even my 10yr old daughter plays with this. We also paint alot and draw. With washable paints it cleans up easily.
We bought games for our kids and keep them out of sight so when the kids need something to do we pull out a "special" game. Everyone loves to play games. There are also cute websites where the kids can play an online game or print out color pictures.
We also go to the library and let the kids pick out books they want to read and then they can read them when they are board.
Thats all I can think of right now.
Blessings,
Andrea

hey Jen!

My kids love anything arts and crafts related...I just give them paints etc or scraps of paper and some bigger sheets and they love to make their own stuff...my oldest son is most fasicnated by a box!! He will make things out of and play for hours with his hot wheels in that box. As for Kayla...she LOVES for me to let her play make over on me, lol! I normally don't look the greatest but if you play your cards right, you kick back in the recliner and they do the work and get a lil' nap into, lol! Yes I am bad I know! Our kids haven't had too many board games but we bought them some at Christmas and a friend bought each kid one, that was great it got us through break like a breeze, I break them out whenever I feel they are getting bored and trying to plop in front of the tv too often.
