My country boy is turning farm boy, and this farm girl is going country!
I grew up "farm-girl", my husband grew up "country-boy"! Our common ground is that both of us love living out here in the sticks! We can "live off the land" as he provides for us with hunting and fishing and I garden and raise chickens. He is very good at the "country-boy" stuff and has taught me a lot. I have even gone out hunting with him in the past (the real way... not with my car) and shot my own deer....! Tuesday night my hubby got his forth deer of the season (all bow hunts). He has tagged out on bucks, but can still take several does. We have a freezer full and now he can work on filling his Mom's and sibling's freezers. The bad news about my "car deer" is that the impact made the meat .... well I will say it nicely..... unusable! BUMMER!!!! We did take the "car deer" into the taxidermist today and he scored the antlers at a 148. Boy, do I wish I had gotten that deer the "right" way!!!!
Anyway, I realized Tuesday night as I was helping my hubby gut and wash out the deer that this whole process no longer grosses me out at all..... I used to HATE helping him gut! The butchering we have down to a science.... especially when his friend, Dana, and him butcher together. They have a SMOOTH system... each one knows their part and I package. It does take Chris and I longer to do when it is just the two of us. It is a blessing to have Dana's help! Anyway, I have learned so much about hunting and fishing and respecting wildlife and nature. He is learning about farm life and is warming up to raising more animals. He finally has decided that we can start raising rabbits and pigs next spring!!!! YEAH!!!! We might not ever have to buy meat at the store again!!!!! I am really excited about this... it has been my dream since I was a little girl!
Have a blessed day!
